Kao Sofina Aube will be discontinued later this year.
According to Aube’s official Japanese website (link above), the product production of the line will be phased out from March. The availability of the line’s products will be terminated at the end of August, and some products may be sold out before that.
You can read the official announcement (in Japanese) from Aube’s official Japanese website here.
Aube was launched in Japan in 1994, so this year marks the line’s 30th anniversary. I first became interested in Japanese cosmetics in the mid-to-late 90’s, and the line caught my attention in the late 90’s or so. Since then, it has helped sustain my interest in Japanese makeup. It generally doesn’t have a fancy or attention-seeking style of packaging, but its quality has been consistently reliable. This unassuming character of the line has always appealed to me.
My most-used item from the line is Designing Impression Eyes in 553 Purple. (Between December 2008 and November 2017, the line was called Aube Couture.) I still go back to this eyeshadow palette every now and then, and it is among my most-used purple-toned eyeshadow palettes. On the other hand, packaging-wise, the dark blue cases (like the ones of Astral Rouge and Rouge Dressious) from all those years ago will always be my favorites. They look very elegant, and they remind me of the time when Japanese cosmetics and cosmetics in general were a new passion for me.
Perhaps Sofina will bring out a new color makeup line later on. (Primavista was launched in September 2008 after Raycious was discontinued. Raycious lasted for seven years, and Primavista has been going strong for more than fifteen years.) It will probably have a very different look, but hopefully it will be just as solidly dependable as Aube has been in terms of quality.
