Shiseido is bringing back Inoui!
Back in 2007, I wrote about Inoui (Inoui ID at the time) in my Bring It Back! series after hearing that it was discontinued. After that, from time to time, I looked at the image of the array of eyeshadow palettes in that post and I still thought there were some great color combinations. Now, after 16 years, Shiseido is re-launching the line!
(It appears that, over the years, Inoui has still been listed in Shiseido’s lineup of brands/lines on Shiseido’s official Japanese website. Also, it seems that one or two items from the line have still been available. At the moment, Shiseido’s official on-line store at Watashi Plus carries the line’s The Brow Liner (Refill) in BR655. According to its product description, the product was originally launched in Japan on November 21st, 1994. Therefore, it may be more accurate to say that the line has been inactive (not completely discontinued).)
On September 21st, Inoui will release its fall 2023 makeup collection in Japan. The collection includes:
– Eyebrow Palette (2 variations, ¥4000, refill ¥3000)
(01 Ash Gray)

(02 Ash Brown)
– Eyebrow Pencil (4 shades (in 01 Ash Gray, 02 Ash Brown, 03 Light Brown & 04 Pink Brown), refill ¥1800, holder ¥2000)
– Eyebrow Liquid (2 shades (in 01 Ash Gray & 02 Ash Brown), ¥3000)
– Cream Foundation (5 shades, SPF 30, PA++, 30g, ¥8000)
– Powder Foundation (5 shades, SPF 30, PA+++, 13g, refill with sponge ¥5000, case ¥2300, replacement sponge ¥600)
– Glow Primer (1 shade, SPF 25, PA++, 30g, ¥5000)
– Concealer (3 shades, SPF 25, PA+++, 5.2g, ¥4500)
– Loose Powder (1 shade, 15g, with puff, ¥7000, refill ¥5000)
– Highlighter (2 shades (in 01 Platinum & 02 Gold), 8g, ¥5000)
(01 Platinum)
“Inoui” (“inouï”) is a French word that means “unheard of” or “extraordinary”. The muse of the line is model and gallery director Angela Reynolds.
The fall 2023 lineup features mostly core basics. According to Shiseido, additional point (color) makeup items will be released from spring 2024 onwards.
I am pleased that Shiseido is, by and large, keeping the look of the line. The striking bright red is still used for the product packaging, and the font of the line’s name is fairly similar to the ones previously used. We will probably find out more about the aesthetics of the new Inoui when we get to see items such as eyeshadows and lipsticks. (Will we see eyeshadow palettes with both classic and bold color combinations?) I am definitely looking forward to the future releases!
