According to Maquia and WWD Japan, the brand will be discontinued at the end of December this year and the brand’s retail points at department stores, beauty specialty stores and on-line stores in Japan will be closed between the beginning of 2022 and the end of June.

WWD Japan cites the brand’s lower sales figures in recent years as one of the reasons for the discontinuation, and it also mentions the support of the brand from overseas visitors to Japan (which presumably has been substantially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic).

Les Merveilleuses de Ladurée was launched in Japan in spring 2012, and I have been following the brand since the news of the launch appeared in late 2011. Even though Face Color Rose Ladurée in 02 is the only item I purchased from the brand, I have always been interested in the brand’s seasonal releases. (I think the brand’s emphasis on blushers contributed to the blusher boom in Japan in the middle of the last decade.) I was pleased to see a simpler look of the new Powder Blush (which was launched this spring), and it is a pity that the brand won’t continue to evolve.

WWD Japan also reports that Albion (whose licensing agreement with Ladurée will terminate) will be focusing on increasing the presence of Anna Sui and Paul & Joe in overseas markets. We’ll wait and see.

That’s such a shame! I loved their products. Is it only discontinued in Japan or is it everywhere. Will it still be available in Hong Kong?

Hi Anahita,

It really is a shame!

I would presume that the brand will be discontinued globally since the licensing agreement between Ladurée and Albion (which produces the products for Ladurée) will terminate.

Hope it helps!

I haven’t come across information on when the retail points in Hong Kong will be closing. If there are items you would like to get from the brand, hopefully you will be able to get them in time!

Thank you very much for stopping by again, and stay well!
