As I mentioned earlier, I have recently been experimenting with warm-toned blushers (even though I generally prefer cool-toned ones). When I saw some of the initial images of Chanel‘s Les Chaînes de Chanel from the brand’s holiday 2020 makeup collection, I was immediately intrigued by its rich coppery hue. Today I will be sharing my thoughts on this product.
Chanel Les Chaînes de Chanel (シャネル レ シェヌ ドゥ シャネル/ 香奈兒 經典鏈帶頰彩盤, limited edition, £52) is a coppery red-toned rose with a softly glowy finish and a veil of fine multi-hued shimmer. (The shimmer is slightly more predominantly warm-toned, and the warm-toned shimmer is mostly red-toned and pink-toned.) It has a moderate pigmentation level and a medium color depth. It is very easy to apply and blend, and it has a good staying power.
In the pan, it appears to have a fairly deep hue and a metallic finish. However, it looks lighter and less light-reflective when worn. (Also, it looks more red-toned and less copper-toned when worn.) The powder is quite firmly pressed, so it is easy to start with a very sheer wash of color and build up the color intensity gradually (to a semi-opaque coverage). The softly glowy finish emphasizes the appearance of pores very slightly, but this is not a huge issue for me.
The powder features chain patterns and the Chanel logo in the middle. The chain patterns look quite detailed and intricate. Personally, I am not hugely keen on the chain patterns, but this does mean I can enjoy using the product (and being fairly liberal with it) without worrying too much about the patterns.
The product comes with a semi-circular and slightly concave brush. It can be stored inside the case (with a plastic separator between the powder and the brush). I haven’t used it, but the hair feels decently dense and soft.
The case is slightly larger than that of Joues Contraste. The Chanel logo on the lid of the case is in a gold shade (instead of the usual white), and it is printed on the case flat (unlike the usual debossed logos).
Overall this blusher works really well for me. I like the tone and the depth of the color, and the softly glowy finish is fairly flattering (without being overly pearly or frosty). The overall look is more natural (and less dramatic) than how I expected it to be, and the wearability (particularly the easily adjustable coverage) and the translucent quality also appeal to me.
