Turquoise is one of my favorite colors. (Have a look at this post from my A Splash of Color series.) It is dynamic, but I also find it calming at the same time. Today I will be sharing with you my thoughts on Laura Mercier‘s Caviar Stick Eye Colour in 2011 Turquoise, which is the latest addition to my collection of turquoise eyeshadows.
Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in 2011 Turquoise (ローラ メルシエ キャビアスティック アイカラー 2011 Turquoise/ 蘿拉蜜思 奢華絲柔眼彩筆 土耳其藍, limited edition (in some countries), £25 in the UK, $29 in the US) was released in summer 2020. It is a well-pigmented medium-to-dark (towards medium) teal-toned turquoise with a softly pearly finish. It has very fine light-reflective particles that are predominantly silver-toned with very subtle multi-hued nuances.
It feels fairly creamy on the skin, and it dispenses color quite smoothly and efficiently. (It doesn’t feel stiff and it doesn’t drag the skin during application.) Two layers of it create a very high level of color saturation and nearly-full opacity. It has a tremendous staying power. After a twelve-hour wear, the color remains fresh and vibrant (with virtually no loss of intensity or opacity) and there is (occasionally) only very minimal creasing.
It sets quite quickly. There is enough time to correct small mistakes, but the issue for me is that the product itself is not very blendable. Once it is applied, its edges can only be slightly softened with fingertips. (It is not easy to create any kind of gradation.) It works far better as an eyeliner (applied with no blending) than as an eyeshadow.
For me, a nice turquoise eyeshadow is not always easy to find. Some turquoise eyeshadows are too green-toned for my liking, and some have yellow-toned and/or green-toned light-reflective particles that I find distracting. I personally prefer a true turquoise and its cooler-toned variations. 2011 Turquoise is a cool-toned turquoise, and I love the richness, the vibrancy and the finish of the color. It creates a pop of color that looks bright and dynamic. I do wish it were more blendable (so that it would be more versatile), but I am very pleased that it works so well for me as an eyeliner (in terms of both color and staying power).
(It seems that, in around 2012, Laura Mercier released a shade in the Caviar Stick Eye Colour range that is also called Turquoise. I have not come across information that suggests that the 2020 release of Turquoise is a re-release. The information from Laura Mercier’s official US and Japanese websites seems to suggest that it is among the twelve “new” shades released earlier this year.)
