Paul & Joe revamped its lipstick range (again) in fall 2017, and, since then, I have reviewed Lipstick N in 214 Paris Métro and Lipstick CS in 106 Rue Crémieux. Both perform well for me, and today I will be focusing on Lipstick CS in 115 Tulipe.
Paul & Joe Lipstick CS in 115 Tulipe (ポール & ジョー リップスティック CS 115 チューリップ/ Paul & Joe 巴黎花坊限量唇膏 115 鬱金香, limited edition, ¥2000 in Japan (refill only), £14 in the UK (refill only)) was released in Japan in spring 2019. It is a fuchsia-toned pink with no shimmer, and it has an above-medium pigmentation level. It glides fairly easily and feels moisturizing on the lips.
A couple of layers of the product create a semi-opaque coverage with a satiny sheen, and additional layers create an almost-opaque coverage and a softly glossy finish. Both the color and the finish have a good staying power.
Compared with Lipstick in 108 Pink Balloon, it is more pigmented, slightly darker, slightly less vibrant and less cool-toned (less fuchsia-toned).
I like a vibrant cool-pink look from time to time, and 115 Tulipe does achieve that look for me. It is not as cool-toned as 108 Pink Balloon, but, on the whole, it creates a more color-saturated look which carries quite a bit of impact. I slightly prefer 108 Pink Balloon, but 115 Tulipe certainly works well for me.
(I am using Lipstick Case CS 046 for this lipstick refill. It was released in Japan in fall 2018.)
I have written about a few lipsticks from Paul & Joe over the years, and I think the quality of the brand’s lipsticks has been consistently good. (While the brand is more known for its base makeup (particularly foundation primers), the lipstick range, for me, is an overlooked gem.) It is a pity that the availability of the brand’s beauty range in the UK has been on the decrease in the last few years. If you have a chance to stop by a Paul & Joe counter, I do recommend taking a look at the lipsticks (as well as the pretty lipstick cases).
