I don’t usually like cartoon motifs on beauty products, but products that feature cartoon characters that bring back childhood memories do sometimes appeal to me. Today, I am opening my treasure chest again and I will be sharing with you photos of Paul & Joe‘s Pressed Powder D in 001.
Paul & Joe Pressed Powder D in 001 (ポール & ジョー プレストパウダー D 001/ Paul & Joe 哆啦A夢限量隔離蜜粉餅組 001, limited edition, ¥5000) was released in Japan in spring 2019. It is an off-white mauve-ish pink with no shimmer.
Doraemon is very happy to be surrounded by Paul & Joe’s signature chrysanthemums.
The powder case features Doraemon with different expressions and floral motifs in matching colors.
The powder comes with a drawstring pouch, and the fabric of the pouch feels quite substantial. The pouch features essentially the same print as that on the powder case (with Doraemon’s back as an additional motif). The small bell (which does ring) and the red drawstring are references to the bell and the collar on Doraemon’s neck. I think these are very nice touches.
Paul & Joe has featured so many cat motifs over the years, so Doraemon is certainly a good fit for the brand. (Doraemon is, after all, a cat!) I really like this collaboration between one of my favorite beauty brands and one of my favorite animation characters. The products in the collection are well-designed with visual, audio and olfactory elements related to the character. (Lip Treatment Balm D is scented with a sweet dorayaki fragrance. (Dorayaki is Doraemon’s favorite food.)) For me, this is definitely a memorable collaboration collection.
