Blushers from Kanebo Lunasol don’t often play very prominent roles within the line’s makeup lineup, unlike those from princessy brands such as Jill Stuart and Les Merveilleuses de Ladurée and those from not-so-princessy ones such as Chicca (a brand not so dissimilar to Lunasol) and Addiction. However, I do think that they play their supporting roles very well. They usually feature very wearable colors, and the quality of the ones I have come across so far is solid.
I have reviewed two blushers from the line (Contrasting Cheeks in 03 Light Orange and Modeling Cheeks in EX01 Soft Pink), and today I will be sharing my thoughts on Coloring Cheeks N in 01 Light Pink.
Kanebo Lunasol Coloring Cheeks N in 01 Light Pink (カネボウ ルナソル カラーリングチークス N 01 Light Pink/ 佳麗寶 日月晶采 光燦修容餅 N 01, refill ¥2500, case (Compact Case (Face) N) ¥1500, brush (Face Brush) ¥1000) was released in Japan in spring 2013 (when the Coloring Cheeks N range was launched with three variations). The three shades in this variation are:
- light-to-medium medium-toned pink, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, with semi-sparse shimmer
- pale pink, lightly pigmented, glowy
- off-white beige cream, lightly pigmented, softly glowy with subtle pinkish-gold iridescence
All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles, and they are all easy to apply and blend. The light-to-medium pink has a good staying power. The pale pink and the off-white beige cream have a reasonably decent staying power (when they are used separately as highlighters).
The light-to-medium pink looks very natural, and it looks slightly more cool-toned when layered. Its shimmer looks mostly silver-toned under natural light and multi-hued under some artificial lightings.
The pale pink and the off-white beige cream can work as subtle highlighting shades. The pale pink looks more glowy than the off-white beige cream (as well as the light-to-medium pink).
The three shades are designed to be mixed together, and I certainly think this is the best way to use this palette. The translucency from the mixture of the three shades looks very appealing. (Since the two pale shades are not very pigmented, they don’t really alter the color of the main blusher shade very much.) Also, as each of the three shades has a different finish, the mixture of the three creates a complex and dimensional finish (that doesn’t look overly glowy, shimmery or iridescent).
Even though I generally prefer blushers with a matte finish, I do like this blusher palette. The combination of the natural color, the translucency and the dimensional finish from the mixture of the three shades creates a soft and seamless look which I find very flattering.
(The Coloring Cheeks N range has been discontinued. I presume the replacement is the Coloring Soft Cheeks range, which was launched in Japan for the holiday 2017 season.)
