Stella McCartney‘s Stella Eau de Parfum was relaunched in fall 2014, and I was wondering how the brand would re-develop the range. This spring, it (relatively quietly) launched Stella Eau de Toilette, and of course I decided to add it to my collection.
First of all, Stella Eau de Toilette has a different fragrance composition from that of Stella Eau de Parfum. They are not the same scent with different fragrance concentrations.
Top notes: mandarin orange, frozen lemon, freesia
Middle notes: Bulgarian rose, violet leaf, peony
Base note: amber

Stella Eau de Toilette is a typical fruity floral. The opening is fresh and citrusy, and then the floral notes surface, with the rose being the predominant note. The amber base note is soft and subtle. There is no strong woody or incense-y element in this composition. The scent has a good lasting power.
Compared with Stella Eau de Parfum, it is more bouncy, sparkling and effervescent. However, it still has the elegance and sophistication of a well-crafted rose fragrance.
Those of you who are familiar with the past summer limited editions of Stella (see all the relevant links below) have probably noticed a similarity between Stella Eau de Toilette and the summer limited editions by looking at the notes, and there is indeed a similarity. Compared with the eau de parfum version, which is less fruity and more understated, Stella Eau de Toilette is more suitable for the warmer months.
(Many of the past summer limited editions of Stella included the note of green apple. It is not listed as one of the notes of Stella Eau de Toilette on the websites cited above.)
The bottle design features a blush-pink cap with a gold collar and a blush-pink polka-dot pattern that goes around the sides of the bottle.
Stella Eau de Toilette is a regular item and not a limited edition. In terms of the fragrance composition, it seems to take the place of the summer edition. After ten summer limited editions, the brand didn’t release one for 2014 or 2015, and I wonder whether they will be back in 2016. I also wonder whether the brand will release a more intense version of Stella Eau de Parfum in the same vein as the discontinued Stella Rose Absolute, which I absolutely adore. I am going to guess that the latter is more probable in the next couple of years. We’ll see!
Stella Eau de Toilette is available in 30ml (£42), 50ml (£57) and 100ml (£70). The one I have (pictured above) is the 50ml version.
