L'Occitane Shea Cleansing Oil Spring Summer 2015 Skincare 1

In January, L’Occitane relaunched its Shea Butter skincare range in the UK. The existing products were repackaged and new products were added to the range. Today I will be reviewing the two new items: Shea Cleansing Oil and Shea Light Comforting Cream.

L’Occitane Shea Cleansing Oil (ロクシタン シア クレンジングオイル/歐舒丹 乳油木卸妝油, 200ml, £17) is one of the two cleansers in the Shea Butter skincare range. The main oil used in this product is helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil (first on the ingredient list). Some of the other ingredients in this product include isopropyl isostearate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter and adansonia digitata (baobab) seed oil.

Consistency-wise, among the cleansing oils I have tried, it is one of the slightly thicker ones. However, it spreads easily on the face and it rinses decently well. It can take a bit of time to rinse off all the oily/emollient residue, but the skin does eventually feel clean and not filmy or oily.

The product doesn’t contain alcohol, mineral oil, fragrant plant oils or parabens. It contains fragrance (parfum).

L’Occitane used to carry cleansing oils but there hadn’t been one from the brand for quite some time. I have always been using a cleansing oil to remove my makeup and it is good to see a new and competent one from L’Occitane. It should appeal to most skin types.

The other new product in L’Occitane’s Shea Butter skincare range is Shea Light Comforting Cream (ロクシタン シア エクストラクリーム ライト/歐舒丹 乳油木保濕凝霜, 50ml, £26). It has a lightweight cream consistency and spreads easily. It takes time for the product to sink into the skin, but, once it has been absorbed, it leaves the skin gently nourished.

Some of the main moisturizing ingredients in this product include butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, octyldodecyl myristate, glycerin, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil and cetearyl alcohol. It contains tocopherol (vitamin E, antioxidant).

The product doesn’t contain alcohol, mineral oil, fragrant plant oils or parabens. It contains fragrance (parfum) and other scenting agents.

It is a decently formulated nighttime moisturizer that is fairly straightforward and non-gimmicky. It should appeal to those with normal or slightly-dry skin. (Despite its lightweight consistency, it may not appeal to those with oilier skin types due to its occlusive emollients such as shea butter and sunflower seed oil.)

L’Occitane’s Shea Butter skincare range also features:

– Shea Cleansing Milk (200ml, £17)
– Shea Gentle Toner (200ml, £15)
– Shea Ultra Rich Comforting Cream (50ml, £28)
– Shea Ultra Rich Lip Balm (12ml, £8.5)

(The products featured in this article are provided by L’Occitane.)
