With base makeup items from Japanese brands, there seems to be an endless cycle of renewing and revamping as many products are replaced with updated versions within two or three years. Of course, there are exceptions, and Majolica Majorca‘s Pressed Pore Cover is one of them.
Pressed Pore Cover (1 shade, 10g, ¥1700, refill ¥1000) was released in Japan on January 21st, 2009. It is a talc-based pressed setting powder designed to reduce the appearance of pores. The powder is translucent and has a velvety matte finish with virtually no shimmer. The texture of the powder is very smooth and silky.
The powder does excel at pore coverage. The appearance of pores is blurred out, and the complexion looks polished and soft-focused and does not appear dry or chalky.
I also like the rectangular powder puff it comes with. First of all, I almost always apply a setting powder with a powder puff as it does a better job at pore coverage than a brush. Secondly, for pore coverage, I prefer square and rectangular powder puffs to round ones as the corners can easily get to slightly trickier areas, such as the nose and the areas around the nose. Thirdly, the hair on this puff is short and dense and the puff works well with the powder to smooth out the appearance of pores.
The powder has some (but not substantial) shine control efficacy. (It doesn’t claim to be able to control shine.) It works better for me in colder months when my face is slightly less sebaceous.
Overall, this is a well-formulated powder that does what it is designed to do. It should work for most skin types, but I think it will particularly appeals to those with normal or slightly-dry skin. If it had more shine control efficacy, the smooth and polished look would last longer on those with oilier skin types.
