Back in May, I was a little surprised to see that Paul & Joe would be releasing ten Lipstick Cases CS for fall 2014. (I suppose they do go hand-in-hand with all the new lipsticks (thirteen regular ones and three limited editions).) It was also a surprise for me that five of them would feature prints from past years, which I didn’t think would happen, even though the brand occasionally used past prints for its GWP items.
I stopped by Harrods earlier this month to have a look and I purchased seven of them. I also went for Lipstick in 107 Rose Sorbet, which is a very pretty rose pink and one of the thirteen new regular shades, but let’s look at the new Lipstick Cases CS today.
015: Paul & Joe’s feature print for fall 2014, with yellow floral motifs against a white and light-blue background. It has a soft and gentle feel.
017: birds and branches in red against what appears to be a night sky with a full moon. It is a subtly impactful look, and I also find it quite poetic.
018: a bear and a bird against a blue-toned scenic background. The background and the color tone of the blue remind me of Chinese porcelain. The placement of the animal motifs adds quirks to the design.
019: dog motifs merged into the floral pattern. Paul & Joe uses a lot of cat motifs, but I am more of a dog person and I am pleased to see a design with dogs instead.
020: birds among orange leaves and branches above an aquatic scene with floral motifs. The look is rich and autumnal, and I like the contrast of colors. This print was first used for Lipstick CS in 019 Grenat Satellite in fall 2003.
021: a pretty floral print that is very Paul & Joe. Bright colors are used but the whole look is relatively understated. This print was first used for Lipstick CS in 050 Pavot in spring 2007.
022: one of Paul & Joe’s signature prints, with cat motifs against a yellow background. This print was first used for Lipstick CS in 039 French Cancan in spring 2005. It was then used for Cosmetic Pouch II in holiday 2008. The pouch is a regular item and is still available.
I will pick one case to go with my Lipstick CS in 085 Peony from spring 2014 and another one for Lipstick in 107 Rose Sorbet, which I will talk about a little later.
(In the UK, these limited-edition paper lipstick cases used to cost £5 when they were first launched in fall 2012, but they are now priced at £7. The price in Japan is still ¥1000.)
