Purple is a versatile color. It can be cute, sensual, sophisticated, vibrant, and edgy. It has also been one of my favorite colors for many years. (See my A Splash of Color: Lilting Lilac (Part 1), (Part 2) & (Part 3).) After a relatively short hiatus, it is great to see purple back on trend for spring 2014. Here are my top 10 purple picks for this season:

Looking more closely at many of the eyeshadow palettes released for spring 2014, I’ve noticed that very few of them are purple-based gradational palettes like Lunasol‘s Layer Bloom Eyes in 03 Purple Gradation from spring 2009 or Estée Lauder‘s Pure Color 5 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Surreal Violet from fall 2010. It seems that the trend look for this season is not to create a purple-toned gradation but to use purple as an accent color for more neutral shades such as gray, brown, and light pink. (The purple in Aube Couture’s Designing Impression Eyes II in 504 Purple is designed to be used as an accent color between the off-white and the gray.)
Paul & Joe’s Eye Color Trio in 03 Le Jardin des Fleurs and Dior’s Trianon Palette in 002 Coquette feature purple as a main (shadowing) shade. Both look fresh and spring-like.
How are you going to wear your purple this season?

I’m wary of wearing purple on my face because I have the biggest purple eyebags ever and I thought wearing purple would accentuate them, but I’m always excited to wear purple on my nails!
Hi Amez,
Purple nails are lovely! If you prefer lilacs to violets for the nails, Shu Uemura’s Nail Color in Lavender Pearl, also from spring 2014, is in a soft lilac shade similar to that of the Silk Cushion Eye Shadow in Amethyst Purple above.
Thank you very much for posting your comment! :)
