SUQQU‘s spring 2013 makeup collection, Vintage Pearl, celebrates the brand’s 10th anniversary. This limited-edition collection was released in Japan on February 1st and it is launched in the UK today. In this review, I am highlighting two items in the collection, Blend Color Eyeshadow in EX-12 Hisuidama and Creamy Glow Lipstick Moist in EX-09 Kohakudama.
Blend Color Eyeshadow in EX-12 Hisuidama is one of the three new Blend Color Eyeshadow palettes in this collection. The four shades in this palette are (anti-clockwise from bottom-right):
– light pink, softly pigmented, with low-toned pearly shimmer
– sage green with a moss-green undertone, moderately pigmented, with a soft pearly glow
– off-white platinum, well-pigmented, with high-toned pearly shimmer
– cool dark brown, well-pigmented, with soft shimmer and fine sparkles
All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They are all very smooth and blendable and they all have a good staying power.
Most base shades in SUQQU’s eyeshadow palettes are shimmerless, but the light pink in this palette has some subtle shimmer. The cool dark brown is very blendable, and its shimmer is predominantly green-toned to complement the sage green.
The sage green is the main shadowing shade in this palette. At first, I thought this would be too cool-toned for me. (I tend to prefer warmer greens such as olive greens.) However, the more I try it, the more it grows on me. It is an elegant and low-key green shade that adds a fairly good amount of depth to the eyes, and it has enough warmth to suit my warm-toned complexion.
When the platinum is swatched, its pearly shimmer looks too high-toned for daytime wear, but, when it is applied with a large fluffy eyeshadow brush on the eyelids, it imparts a beautiful illuminating pearly glow on the eye areas. (The fluffier end of the brush applicator in the palette does a good job at creating this finish.) This soft-spotlight effect is certainly natural enough for daytime wear.
Overall this is another very well-constructed eyeshadow palette from SUQQU. The sage green and the platinum are two very pleasant surprises for me, and I love the natural pearly glow that the shades create as a whole. (It definitely echoes the name of the collection.)
The case of the palette has a pearlized finish, which is a first for SUQQU. This again goes with the name of the collection, and it adds a special touch to the 10th anniversary collection.
Creamy Glow Lipstick Moist in EX-09 Kohakudama is one of the three new Creamy Glow Lipstick Moist shades in this collection. It is a moderately pigmented warm-toned beige brown with a very subtle rose undertone. (It is slightly more brown-toned than it looks in the photos here.) It glides well and feels moist and emollient, and it creates a natural glossy sheen for the lips. Both the color and the finish last well.
The shade is likely to appeal to those who want lipstick shades that are slightly darker than most nude-beige shades. For me, this shade is slightly too warm-toned and brown-toned. (I prefer rosier shades.)

As with the case of the eyeshadow palette above, the white case of the lipstick is pearlized. I like the fact that the white case is reminiscent of SUQQU’s older packaging (such as the packaging of Creamy Lipstick) but with a celebratory twist.
