After a few seasons of warm neutrals, grey emerges as one of the hottest shades for spring 2011. The looks that incorporate grey are chic and sophisticated, with a feel of low-key glamour. Meanwhile, surprisingly, purples are still at center stage, and, for this season, they are teaming up with warm neutrals for a natural but defined look.
Silvers & Greys
Dior leads the rest of the field with an ultra-chic Gris Montaigne makeup collection. All the new eye makeup items are grey-toned, and the color theme extends to lip and nail items. You will also find greys in collections from other trend setters such as Guerlain and NARS.

Interestingly, greys are found in a few spring 2011 eye palettes from major Japanese beauty lines. The overall color tone of Lunasol‘s Ocean Scene Eyes in 04 Smoky Ocean is nothing like what we have seen from Lunasol before, and I think it is a more wearable interpretation of the color trend for some people. Also, greys appear in the latest eye palettes from Coffret D’Or and Elégance.

Purples & Neutrals
Lancôme goes all out with purples with its Ultra Lavande makeup collection, another striking creation by Aaron de Mey.

On the other hand, some other collections feature a combination of neutrals (and light lilacs in some cases) as main colors and a deep violet to add depth, as we see from Estée Lauder, Laura Mercier, and Clarins.

While greys don’t really suit my skin tone, maybe it is time for me to start mixing Lavshuca’s Star Decoration Eyes in BR-1 and Lunasol’s Sheer Contrast Eyes in Lavender Coral!
