French skincare line Decléor‘s new Harmonie Calm range is claimed to soothe dryness, redness and sensitivity. The range currently features four products: Delicate Milky Cream Fluid, Soothing Milky Cream, Relaxing Milky Eye Gel Cream and Comforting Milky Gel Cream Mask. Today I am focusing on Soothing Milky Cream.
Harmonie Calm Soothing Milky Cream has a light cream consistency and spreads well on the skin. (It has a similar consistency to that of Neutrogena Multi-Defence Night Moisturizer, which I reviewed earlier.) Some of the main moisturizing ingredients in this product are glycerin, isononyl isononanoate, caprylic/capric triglyceride, butylene glycol, pentylene glycol, cetearyl alcohol, blackcurrant seed oil, squalane, cotton seed oil and sunflower seed oil.
The product contains anti-oxidants such as betula alba bark extract (birch bark extract) and palmitoyl grape seed extract.
It is alcohol-free and paraben-free. It contains a very small amount of fragrance (parfum).
One potentially problematic ingredient is rosa damascena flower oil (in the first half of the ingredient list), which is a fragrant plant oil that may cause skin irritation. (It is not to be confused with rosa centifolia flower (rose hip), which is an anti-oxidant.)
Consistency-wise, this product may suit those with normal or slightly dry skin. However, patch tests are highly recommended due to the rosa damascena flower oil that the product contains.
(Some ingredient information is based on Paula Begoun’s Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary.)

Hi, I was wondering if you found this cream moisturizing? I’m considering purchasing this but my local Nordstrom doesn’t carry it in store so I can’t test it out. I would really appreciate your help! ( : Thanks!
Hi Elli,
Personally, I find it moisturizing for my skin type (oily but slightly dehydrated). However, I chose not to use it for an extended period of time because I was concerned about the rosa damascena flower oil contained in this product.
Hope it helps a little, and thank you very much for your question! :)
Is this a new formulation? I have been using Harmonie for years and this seems totally different – thinner, grayer, more perfumed (rather than the scent coming from the botanical ingredients).
Hi Laurie,
I had a look on-line and I think this could indeed be a new formulation. (It appears to be a replacement for Harmonie Gentle Soothing Cream, which I presume is the one you have been using.)
Thank you very much for stopping by and for bringing this up! :)
PJ – Thanks for clarifying this. I just bought a jar to replace Harmonie Gentle soothing cream, and was so disappointed and confused. This Harmonie calm is very different. It’s a nice enough cream, but too highly scented for me.
Hi Kathy,
You are welcome! I think the pronounced fragrance could be due to rosa damascena flower oil, which adds fragrance to a product. I haven’t seen the ingredient list of the previous version, so I am not entirely sure. (I am sorry that the new version isn’t as good as the previous one for you!)
Thank you for posting your comment! :)
