Neutrogena‘s new Multi-Defence skincare range claims to combat what the brand calls the five key environmental aggressors that can damage the skin: sun, pollution, cold, heat, and wind. The range currently features 6 products: 3 day moisturisers (Dry & Sensitive SPF 15, Normal to Combination SPF 15, and All Skin Types SPF 25), Night Moisturiser (All Skin Types), Gentle Purifying Scrub and Gentle Purifying Wipes. Today I am highlighting Daily Moisturiser for All Skin Types SPF 25 and Night Moisturiser for All Skin Types.
Multi-Defence Daily Moisturiser for All Skin Types SPF 25 has a lightweight creamy lotion consistency and comes in a bottle with a pump dispenser. It spreads very well but it takes a bit of time to be absorbed. Some of the main moisturizing ingredients in this product are dicaprylyl carbonate, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, shea butter, and cetyl alcohol.
The product contains butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane as the anti-UVA ingredient and is a competent daytime moisturizer that offer adequate sun protection.
It contains ilex paraguariensis leaf extract (yerba mate extract), which, according to Paula Begoun, is an anti-oxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. The other anti-oxidants in this product are ascorbyl glucoside (vitamin C), tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E) and tocopherol (vitamin E).
It is fragrance-free and paraben-free.
Compared with the Day Moisturizer above, Multi-Defence Night Moisturizer for All Skin Types has a slightly thicker consistency (a light cream consistency). It spreads well and keeps the skin adequately hydrated. Some of the moisturizing agents that this product contains are dicaprylyl carbonate, glycerin, cetearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, glyceryl stearate, and shea butter.
It contains the same anti-oxidants as those in the Day Moisturiser. Parfum is listed as the last ingredient on the ingredient list.
It is paraben-free.
Overall, both products are very decently formulated with anti-oxidants and no obvious skin irritants. They should be suitable for those with normal, slightly dry or slightly oily skin. Those with dry or very dry skin might find that they are not emollient enough, while those with oily skin might prefer moisturizers that are even more lightweight.

Hello, how do you think, will it clog pores or not? My skin is prone to acne and blackheads so I’m scared to use it. I want the \one which is for All skin types, because my skin at the same time is dehydrated so I need something very moisturizing bet noncomedogenic.
Thanks :)
Hi Zaza,
>will it clog pores or not?
I am not certain which one of the two products is the one you are asking about. But I think both products are generally suitable for many skin types. The only ingredient I am more concerned about for you is shea butter. I personally tend not to recommend products that have shea butter to those with acne-prone skin. It is not towards the very top of the ingredient list of either of the two products, but they may have enough of it to cause problems for you.
Skin can indeed be prone to acne and dehydrated at the same time, and it is great that you don’t just focus on dealing with acne and forget about making sure the skin stays hydrated. I hope you will find the right products for you!
Thank you very much for your question! :)
Thanks for your answer :) I was talking about Daily Moisturiser. Right now I don’t have any blemish and my skin is oily in the T zone, but when the weather gets colder, my nose starts flaking so I’m looking for a better moisturiser for the colder weather, which has to be light but very moisturising :)
I’, sorry if I do mistakes :) Thanks again ;)
Hi Zaza,
You are very welcome. There is no need to apologize! :)
I think the Daily Moisturiser might be suitable for you in colder months. It should be light enough for your skin type but moisturizing enough for you as well. Do let me know what you think if you decide to try it. :)
I think I will buy it online, because here in my country you can’t find them :) Does it really has a lot of these good antioxidants, how you can hear in promotions? Now I’m using a very simple moisturizer with SPF 20, but it has no important ingredients in it, despite the fact that it moisturises my skin very well, but thats it.. :) I think it is Mineral oil, which makes my skin feel moisturized :/
Hi Zaza,
When I review skincare products and discuss their ingredients, the information is from the full ingredient lists that are printed either on the products themselves or on the outer boxes. (In many countries (if not most countries), beauty products are legally required to feature full ingredient lists on the packaging.) So, yes, it does have the ingredients that I mentioned. :)
In daytime, all you really need is a well-formulated moisturizer that suits your skin type and has both anti-UVA and anti-UVB ingredients. But, like what you said, you might need a more emollient alternative for colder months.

Thank you for stopping by again! :)
I used this product for the first time three days ago and my face is bright red, itching and sore. I am going on holiday tomorrow so am not very pleased. I look like I have a bad case of sunburn. I have never had an allergic reaction before. I can’t prove that this has caused it but it seems likely as the reaction happened just after using this product. Thanks a lot
Hi Carol,
>I used this product for the first time […]
Could you kindly identify which product gave you irritation? I reviewed two products in this article and it is not clear which product you referred to.
Thank you very much.
