In most countries outside Asia, the Sensai line would be the only line available under the Kanebo brand. Last month, I reviewed Sensai’s Cellular Performance Mask and Hydrachange Mask. Sensai also carries base and point makeup items (as well as bodycare and haircare products), and, today, I am featuring the line’s Eye Shadow Palette in ES 02 Kaede Momiji.

Sensai’s Eye Shadow Palette range was launched in February 2009 as part of the line’s revamped point makeup collection. (See my post on this back in 2008.) The range currently includes four variations. ES 02 Kaede Momiji is the warmer one of the two neutral palettes.
The four shades in this palette are (counter-clockwise from top):
– pale peach, sheer, mildly shimmery
– sheer salmon peach, sheer, very subtly shimmery
– peachy orange, moderately pigmented, very shimmery and softly metallic
– warm dark brown, very pigmented, subtly shimmery
All the four shades have multi-colored shimmer. The shimmer in the dark brown is predominantly warm-toned.
The salmon peach (on the left) is slightly on the dry side and is not the easiest to layer. The other three shades are very smooth and easy to apply. The dark brown is surprisingly silky smooth. (With many Japanese eyeshadow palettes that I have, the eyelining shade is often one of the drier shades in the palette as it is designed to stay put for longer.)
The colors are very warm and they have an autumnal (rather than summery) feel. “Kaede momiji” roughly means “red maple leaves”, and these colors do remind me of the shades which maple leaves turn into in autumn.
These orange-toned shades happen to be on-trend this year, but my favorite shade in this palette is actually the warm brown. I like its warm-toned shimmer, and it defines the eyes in a natural and seamless way.
Overall this is a very warm palette. (Even the base shade is very warm.) Color-wise, this palette can be seen as a more intense version of Coffret D’Or’s Beauty C Curve Eyes in Peach Beige. (Finish-wise, Peach Beige is generally more shimmery.) Peach and orange shades in Japanese cosmetics are not often this warm, and those who like very warm (but not bronzy) neutrals might want to consider having a look at this palette.
