Like Kate, Kanebo’s Lavshuca will release its spring 2009 collection in Japan on February 1st, 2009.

The collection includes:

Dramatic Memory Rouge (12 shades)
Grade Color Eyes palette (5 variations)
Separate Keep Mascara (in Long and Volume)
Mascara Base N
Makeup Base (in UV and Moist)
Finish Powder (in Lucent and High Cover)
Stick Concealer N (in 3 shades)

As part of a growing trend in Japanese cosmetics in the last couple of years (which I will discuss in more detail next week), Lavshuca continues to market lipsticks (instead of eyeshadow palettes) as the main items in the seasonal collection. The new Dramatic Memory Rouge is billed as both moisturizing and long-lasting, as it combines “moisture wrapping oil” for continual moisture and “fit stay oil” for lasting color.

Apart from the new lipsticks and eye palettes, I will be paying close attention to the Finish Powder, which I think will replace the current Face Powder (which I adore). The Face Powder I have is in Lucent, and I don’t suppose the new Lucent will be drastically different. But I will also be interested in how High Cover performs. (I am also curious about the new case and I wonder if it will be as cute as the Face Powder case. I am having high hopes.)

The beautiful plum color scheme remains in the overall look of the brand, but the product packaging evolves as new items join the lineup. With interesting products that are worth anticipation, Lavshuca’s spring 2009 collection is looking very promising.

Hi PJ!

I was looking at the eyeshadow in the promotional image of the spring 09 collection, and I can’t help but remember what The Muse said in one of her recent posts – “How many browns/neutrals do we really need?” She did mention that she was getting disappointed with Lavshuca since they seemed to be releasing quite a bit of brown themed eye palettes.

I am trying to be optimistic here, so I do wish that the eyeshadows will be of some other fantastic colors/textures/finish.

What do you think?

Hi Laura,

I think, overall, neutral shades are still by far the most popular eyeshadow shades in Japan, and this applies to brands appealing to virtually all age groups. As far as I remember, nearly all the eyeshadow palettes voted as favorites by readers of Japanese beauty magazines are neutral-toned. I think it is because the number one reason why Japanese consumers use eyeshadows is to add serious dimension to the eyes to make them look as defined as possible, and, obviously, no other shade does this better than beige and brown ones.

Also, I suppose the current economic climate has something to do with this. I think, now, when people do want to buy new eyeshadows, many of them are more likely to buy safer colors. I think that various brands’ releases are partly reflecting what people want (based on market research, I suppose), apart from creating/reflecting new trends.

But, I am quite sure that the other variations of Grade Color Eyes will be of different tones. I am certainly looking forward to some lilacs.

(By the way, I think the only recent Lavshuca seasonal collection that is really very neutral-toned is the spring 2008 collection, where we have palettes with all neutral shades with one non-neutral accent color. Apart from that, I think many other Japanese/western brands release as many neutral-toned eye palettes as Lavshuca does.)

Thank you for your comment! :)
