March is the time when various Japanese cosmetics brands release their new base makeup items. (In Japanese cosmetics, “base makeup” refers to products including primer, concealer, foundation, pressed/loose powder, and highlighter…all the things to get that perfect canvas.) On March 1st, Anna Sui will launch its spring/summer base makeup collection in Japan. The collection includes:

– Control Color Primer UV (SPF 35, PA ++; containing “micro lucent powder” to brighten up the skin)

– Loose Compact Powder UV (six shades; 001, 002, 200 with SPF 15 PA ++, 700, 701, 702 with SPF 14 PA ++)

– Oil Control Paper

The Loose Compact Powder UV has caught my eye. The case (sold separately) can potentially be a beautiful and practical item to have. I look forward to seeing the detail of the packaging later on in some Japanese cosmetics magazines.

Hi PJ!

Thanks for explaining exactly what “base makeup” refers to :)
LOL. BTW, why is it that Japanese cosmetic companies take great care to make their websites so lovely to look at, and US sites can’t be bothered?? I can’t understand a freaking thing, but they’re still so much prettier than the US sites!

Have a great weekend!

Hi The Muse,

I am considering getting the compact too. I will make up my mind after seeing some more close-up images of it. But at the moment it looks very good…:)

Thank you for your comment again! :)

I’ve ordered two single Anna Sui’s eye shadows at strawberrynet.com after reading all your posts about this brand :) Unfortunately Anna Sui is not sold here :( so I can only choose from limited range online but anyway, thanks again for your great blog which never fails to inspire me!

Hi Kristy,

It is good to hear from you again. :)

You are very welcome. I did realize from your e-mail that I should be clearer about the term “base makeup” in Japanese cosmetics. So I thank you for that!

You brought up a very good point. I think, in the most general sense, some US cosmetics official sites are mainly for making ordering easy. It is more functional than anything else. As for official websites of Japanese cosmetics brands, most of them don’t offer on-line ordering (not even for residents in Japan), but what many of them do is to create a pleasing and attractive visual and audio experience.

I think it is all about creating a brand image and drawing people into their merchandise. The Japanese cosmetics market is extremely competitive. There are so many brands and they are all trying to get people’s attention. I guess the more time you are willing to spend looking through a certain website, the more chances they have to create a lasting and hopefully a positive impression on you.

I do love some of the sites very much. They do sometimes make me want to stop by the counters right away! :)

(I only understand some Japanese. What I sometimes do is just to click on everything and see what comes out…:)…I sometimes pick up more Japanese this way…)

Thank you for posting your comment! Have a wonderful weekend too! :)

Hi Katya,

Do let me know if you like the two Anna Sui items that you ordered. I do hope you will enjoy using them. Since I have not tried eyeshadow singles from Anna Sui, I’ll look forward to hearing what you think.

I am not sure which country you are in at the moment, but Anna Sui is not available in the UK (either)…:( So I have to buy on-line as well.

Thank you for your kind words about my blog and for posting your comment! :)

Dear PJ!
I’ll surely review Anna Sui’s singles when I receive them! I live in Russia. I’m surprised but we have a loooot of Korean brands here (many of them try to copy Japanese as I may see from your posts :) and none of Japanese except only some skincare from Kanebo, Kose etc (I guess cheaper range).

Hi Rebecca,

I am looking forward to these items too, particularly the loose powder compact.

The blotting paper looks nice too!

Thank you very much for visiting my blog and posting your comment! :)

Hi Katya,

I didn’t know that there are a lot of Korean beauty brands in Russia. I am interested to know what brands are available there…as I don’t think there is any cosmetics brand from Korea in the UK at the moment…

Hope you’ll enjoy the Anna Sui singles, and thank you for dropping by again! :)
