I stopped by several department stores in London a couple of days ago and saw that some spring 2008 makeup collections had been launched. I tested some of the items and I’d like to share some initial thoughts with you.
Givenchy’
s spring 2008 collection (now available in Harrods), Denim Fétiche, features shades of blue and purple. The blue in the eyeshadow palette looks more vibrant and dimensional than it appears in photos and in the pan. Though still quite dark, it is not as ashy as it appears in some photos. It has some nice sparse silvery shimmer.(In the two eyeshadow palettes, the top-left and bottom-right shades are shimmery, the bottom-left shades are matte, and the top-right shades are of a creamy texture.)
As for purples and mauves, the Prisme Again! Blush in #11 looks good with a combination of cold pinks and soft muted mauves.

Like me, some readers are concerned that the patterns will wear out. I think the
embossed patterns should stay for quite a while if the colors are only used lightly every now and then.

One of the spring 2008 collectons I look forward to seeing is Chanel‘s. I know that it is already available in the US, but Chanel’s seasonal collections are usually launched later in the UK. So I will be waiting patiently.

Thanks PJ! You really helped kill some of my lemmings – I wasn’t tempted by the Givenchy or Dior to begin with, but I was looking forward to Chanel, YSl and Guerlain.
I’m not sure how much Guerlain is but I am sure it is not cheap for powder that does not glide that well (I wanted to blue palette too!) – as for YSl I fancied the swirly blush but I remmeber seeing Temptalias swatch and thinking it looked a bit like lipgloss is was so shiny!
I may get one anyhow – with Boots points that is!

But did I really kill your lemmings? :) I didn’t mean to do that, as I was mainly talking about my thoughts purely based on my own preferences. Do still check them out later on! :)
I did ask how much Guerlain’s eyeshadow palettes were, but now I only vaguely remember that they are 32 pounds.
I tested them for a second time after I wrote this post, but it still seems that the powder is not as smooth as, for example, Dior’s or YSL’s.
The YSL blusher sticks are
indeed quite glossy. They are nice if you like a bit of a wet-cheek look. But, for me, they are a bit too shiny. Also, the packaging seems uncharacteristically plastic-y for YSL. Do have a look and let me know what you think.

….I can safely say that I now have a huge ginormous lemming for that beautiful ultramarine Givenchy nail polish.
I have this unhealthy fascination with blue cosmetics, I’ve noticed. I just bought myself a backup of my Chanel Blue Satin polish last night at about three in the morning (insomnia as usual). But hey, I’m happy being a blue-obsessed maniac.
I’m just hoping that the friggin’ Givenchy polish will be available here in the USA. It seems to me that the really interesting colors are never released here. Just ten million shades of beige. Makes me want to lobotomize myself with a pencil.

I certainly like blue as well, and I tend to like lighter and more aqua-ish types of warm blue.
For Chanel, I will be looking forward to seeing the light-blue nail color.
I did see the blue Givenchy nail color but I didn’t test it. The shade did look good in the bottle. I do hope it will be available in the US!

I’ve seen photos of Chanel’s Azur and I can safely say I’m buying it when I go to the Galleria (the huge mall we have here in Houston and more or less the only decent one here as well). It’s beautiful and I’ve seen it worn over Blue Satin. Enhances Blue Satin greatly because however much I love Blue Satin, once it’s on and dried it really looks blue-black it’s so dark. Even out in sun it’s still a bit too dark. I was hoping it would be bright enough to actually discern it was a blue, y’know? But hey, I’m just happy to find a cool blue polish. Warm blues, however much I love them, look absolutely crap on me.
Speaking of blue things, do you know of Givenchy’s Pop Gloss Syrup in Iced Mint? Apparently it came out in 2005 along with a yellow, a green, and a neon pink. They all look like they’ll go on clear but I’m still determined to get me an Iced Mint.
(I badly want Dior’s Mint Lemonade but so far, no dice. Wildest Blue I’ve located and am waiting till next payday to buy it. There’s also a blue Addict Gloss but so far I’ve only been able to find a number, not a name for it. It looks a bit like Wildest Blue, but with more of a blue tint to it. I’ve gotta take a picture of my blue collection and send it to ya.)

Indeed, I have heard that Chanel’s Blue Satin can be a little bit too dark. Hope Azur will brighten Blue Satin a little bit for you.
I have seen Givenchy’s Iced Mint. I think I tested it as well, but I didn’t get it. It is indeed very sheer, and I tend to go for blue-tinted lip glosses with shades that look slightly more vibrant in the tubes. (I do like to look at all the blueness in the tubes. It is like tropical ocean….:))
Let me know what you think when you get Dior’s Wildest Blue. Remember that it is not sheer at all! It is a very opaque blue…
