In 2018, I reviewed Kosé Esprique‘s Glow Eye Veils in PU130 and BE335. Even though I preferred (and still do prefer) powder-based eyeshadows, I did like both of them. Then, when I started to experiment with red-toned eyeshadows, and I revisited the Glow Eye Veil range and decided try RD430.
Kosé Esprique Glow Eye Veil in RD430 (コーセー エスプリーク グロウ アイヴェール RD430/ 高絲 丰靡美姬 幻粧 恆耀持色眼彩蜜 RD430 沉醉酒紅, ¥1200) was released in Japan for the holiday 2017 season (when the Glow Eye Veil range was launched). It is a medium-to-dark brown-toned burgundy with a medium-to-high (towards medium) pigmentation level.
A relatively thin layer creates a satiny finish with semi-sparse shimmer, and additional layers create a pearlier and slightly more shimmery finish. (The light-reflective particles are multi-hued.)
Both the color and the finish have a very good staying power. There is only minor creasing towards the end of wear.
The product is fairly easy to work with. Because it is fairly dark (darker than PU130 and BE335) and pigmented, I need to spend a little more time softening the edges. Fortunately, it doesn’t set too quickly and there is enough time for blending and fine-tuning. Repeated layering does not result in any patchiness, and a gradation is achievable without too much difficulty.
(The line suggests using the sponge applicator to spread and blend the product (without the need to use fingertips). However, I do still use my fingertips to blend the product after I place it on my eyelids with the sponge applicator.)
(Note that alcohol is the second ingredient on the ingredient list of this product. This could cause concerns for some people.)
Overall I like this shade. Its muted and understated tones appeal to me a lot, and, as a red-toned shade, it is quite wearable. Even though the application can be a little time-consuming, the result is a feminine and sophisticated look that is worth the effort.
