Last year, I reviewed Kanebo Coffret d’Or Gran‘s Elegant Up Cheeks in 03 Rose. The Elegant Up Cheeks range was replaced by the Lively Up Cheeks range, and today I will be sharing my thoughts on 03 Rose.
Kanebo Coffret d’Or Gran Lively Up Cheeks in 03 Rose (カネボウ コフレドール グラン ライブリーアップチークス 03 ローズ/ 佳麗寶 金炫光燦美魔 玫紅修容餅 03, ¥3000) was released in Japan in spring 2019 (when the Lively Up Cheeks range was launched with three variations (in 01 Pink, 02 Coral and 03 Rose)). The four shades in this palette are:
- porcelain white, lightly pigmented, subtly glowy with a hint of shimmer
- pale pink-toned beige, subtly pigmented, subtly glowy with a hint of shimmer
- medium-toned dusty pink, moderately pigmented, softly glowy with soft shimmer
- medium-to-cool cherry-toned rose, moderately pigmented, softly glowy with soft shimmer
All the four shades in this palette have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They are all very easy to apply and blend, and the two main blusher shades (the pink and the rose) have a good staying power.
According to the application recommendations from the line (which are featured on the line’s official Japanese website and printed on the back of the outer box of the product), the porcelain white and the pale beige are designed to be mixed together (to be used as a base) and the dusty pink and the rose are also designed to be mixed together.
According to the line, the base (the mixture of the porcelain white and the pale beige) is formulated to conceal dullness and add radiance to the complexion. It does add a hint of glow and a very soft veil of shimmer to the complexion, but it doesn’t even out or brighten the complexion in any noticeable way. (There is virtually no coverage as both shades (particularly the pale beige) in the mixture are very sheer.) Unlike the base shade from Elegant Up Cheeks, it is not claimed to help smooth out the appearance of pores. On me, it certainly doesn’t have any pore-smoothing efficacy.
The mixture of the dusty pink and the rose shows up as a medium-toned cherry-toned rose with a softly glowy and softly shimmery finish. The cherry tone of the rose makes the mixed shade fairly vibrant, and I do need to be fairly light-handed when mixing the two shades. The mixed shade works fairly well for me, but I would prefer it to be very slightly cooler-toned. Also, while the finish of the mixed shade doesn’t emphasize the appearance of pores, I would prefer it to be slightly less shimmery.
I have also tried mixing all the four shades, and I like the overall look they create. Compared with the two blusher shades layered over the two base shades, the mixture of the four shades looks slightly softer (slightly less vibrant), slightly less shimmery (due to the two base shades being less shimmery than the two blusher shades), and slightly more translucent. It also looks a little fresher and a little more natural.
The case is mostly gold and features rose motifs (outside and inside the lid). Unlike the case of Elegant Up Cheeks, it includes a mirror.
Overall this blusher palette works fairly well for me, and I prefer mixing all the four shades to layering the blusher shades over the base shades. Between this palette and Elegant Up Cheeks in 03 Rose, I prefer the latter. Its base shade, with its pore-smoothing effect, works very well for me, and the mixture of its blusher shades has a more flattering finish for me.
