I reviewed Kosé Visée‘s Glossy Rich Eyes in BR-5 Gold Brown (which is among my favorite neutral-toned eyeshadow palettes) in 2015, and I wrote about BR-1 Warm Brown in 2018. Today I will be sharing my thoughts on PK-3 Burgundy.
Kosé Visée Glossy Rich Eyes in PK-3 Burgundy (コーセー ヴィセ グロッシーリッチ アイズ PK-3 バーガンディ系/ 高絲 Visée 晶緞光漾眼影盒 PK-3 魅惑咖啡, ¥1200) was released in Japan in fall 2013 (when the Glossy Rich Eyes range was launched with eight variations). The four shades in this palette are:
- subtly pink-toned cream white, lightly pigmented, softly shimmery
- light peach, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, with pearly shimmer
- medium-to-dark burgundy, lightly-to-moderately (towards moderately) pigmented, with soft pearly shimmer
- dark brown, moderately-to-intensely (towards moderately) pigmented, softly glowy with hints of shimmer
All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They are all easy to apply and blend, and they all have a very good staying power. (The cream white, the light peach and the burgundy are quite firmly pressed. They are still easy to apply as the powder itself is soft and smooth.)
The cream white is not too shimmery or too sparkly, and it works well for me as a base shade. The light peach looks mostly skin-tonal on me, and it can work both as a base shade and as a lightening shade. (When I apply it as a base shade, I use the cream white to highlight the brow bones.)
The burgundy works very well for me as a shadowing shade. (I was worried that it would be slightly too dark and too dramatic for me, but it is actually very wearable.) As it has a light-to-moderate (towards moderate) pigmentation level, I can layer it gradually to achieve the color intensity and the gradation I want. Also, it has a subtly translucent finish and a very subtle brown undertone. While they do not affect the clarity of the burgundy hue, they help create a relatively understated look.
The dark brown is sufficiently dark and works competently as an eyelining shade. I like the hints of shimmer in this shade.
Overall I like this palette very much. Partly because three of the four shades are quite firmly pressed and partly because none of the shades is very pigmented, layering is needed and can take a bit of time. (This is generally the case with BR-1 and BR-5 as well.) However, I do think it is worth the time. The four shades work well together and they create a feminine and sensual look.
The new Glossy Rich Eyes N range, released in Japan today as part of the line’s spring 2020 makeup collection, is replacing the Glossy Rich Eyes range. I have the impression that the Glossy Rich Eyes range was quite popular in Japan and that PK-3 was one of the most popular variations in the range, so I am looking forward to reading comments on the new PK-3 (which looks similar to the PK-3 I am reviewing here) and all the other variations on-line.
