Launched in December 2007 (to replace T’Estimo and Revue), Kanebo Coffret d’Or celebrated its tenth anniversary last year with various product releases and events throughout the year. Quite a few products caught my attention, and I decided to go for 6 Selection Eyes in 02 Lady Beige. Today I will share some photos of the palette and some thoughts on the line.
Kanebo Coffret d’Or 6 Selection Eyes in 02 Lady Beige (カネボウ コフレドール 6 セレクションアイズ 02 レディベージュ/ 佳麗寶 金炫光燦 璀璨絕色眼彩盤 02, limited edition, ¥2800) was released in Japan in summer 2018 (when the 6 Selection Eyes range was launched with two variations (in 01 Sunny Brown and 02 Lady Beige)). It contains six eyeshadows (a cream white, a light beige, a medium-depth beige, a dark brown, a fuchsia pink and a cinnamon red).
According to the suggested application method (printed on the back of the outer box of the product), the four shades on the right can be used as everyday tone-on-tone neutral shades and the two shades on the left can be used as accent shades along the outer parts of the upper lash lines.
The case of the palette is a more ornate version of the case of the Nudy Impression Eyes range. (The bow design in the middle is part of the line’s current look.) It features jewel motifs in blue and plum hues.
Coffret d’Or started out with some great eyeshadow palette ranges in its early days. (Most of my purchases from the line are eyeshadow palettes, and, for me, 3D Lighting Eyes and Trance Deep Eyes are still among the best eyeshadow palette ranges from the line.) Some of the subsequent releases were a little less interesting, but there were still a few very good ones. In recent years, I have been pleased that some of the releases remind me of the line’s original appeal. (The Beauty Aura Eyes range is my favorite among the recent releases.)
Even though I was disappointed with the discontinuation of T’Estimo, I have been a fan of Coffret d’Or from the very beginning. I like the consistently good quality of the products, the generally very wearable colors, the appealing packaging and the reasonable prices. It is one of the beauty lines I can count on when I want to get a polished look quickly and easily.
Most Japanese beauty companies revamp their beauty brands and lines every now and then through packaging renewals (which Coffret d’Or had a few) and total overhauls (such as the transitions from T’Estimo and Revue to Coffet d’Or and from PN and Proudia to Maquillage). I suppose Coffret d’Or will eventually be replaced by a new line, but, before that happens, I will certainly look forward to trying new items from the line.
(Many thanks to a friend of mine for kindly getting this palette for me upon its release so that I wouldn’t miss out on this limited-edition item!)
