Coffret d’Or Nudy Impression Eyes in 02 Gold Brown

Kanebo launched Coffret d’Or in December 2007, and the line is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The line’s image and product packaging have been constantly evolving over the years, but I feel that the quality of the line’s products has been generally consistently good. Today, I will be sharing my thoughts on the line’s Nudy Impression Eyes in 02 Gold Brown, which was released earlier this year.

Kanebo Coffret d’Or Nudy Impression Eyes in 02 Gold Brown (カネボウコフレドールヌーディインプレッションアイズ 02 ゴールドブラウン/ 佳麗寶金炫光燦光透裸色眼影盒 02, ¥2800) was released in Japan in spring 2018 (when the Nudy Impression Eyes range was launched with four variations). The six shades in this variation are (clockwise from bottom left):

pale peach, lightly pigmented, softly pearly with soft and mostly peach-toned iridescence
pale yellow, lightly pigmented, softly pearly with soft and mostly yellow-toned iridescence
cream white with a yellow undertone, lightly pigmented, subtly glowy
medium-depth warm brown, moderately pigmented, with soft pearly shimmer
peachy gold, moderately pigmented, with pearly shimmer
dark brown, well-pigmented, with a pearly glow

All the six shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They are all very easy to apply and blend, and they all have a good staying power.

The three shades on the left of the palette (the cream white, the pale yellow and the pale peach) are designed to be mixed together to work as a base. The three shades, when mixed, show up as a pale gold with a glowy-to-pearly finish and yellow-toned and peach-toned iridescence.

The warm brown is the main shadowing shade. It is dark enough to be a fairly competent shadowing shade for me, and it doesn’t turn grayish or ashy over time. The color tone of the shade suits me fairly well, but I would like it to be a little more bronze-toned or gold-toned. What particularly impresses me about this shade is that it is exceptionally creamy and effortlessly blendable. It seems to melt on the skin, and blending it is a breeze.

The peachy gold, when applied according to the suggested application method from the line, brightens the eyes very effectively. It blends well with and gradates quite seamlessly to the warm brown, and it doesn’t look too peach-toned on me. (I have also tried applying it as a lightening shade before layering the warm brown on top of it to create a vertical gradation. It works well that way, but I actually prefer applying it according to the suggested method.)

The dark brown is quite intensely dark and is a very competent eyelining shade. It glides well on the skin and doesn’t require too much layering to build up color intensity.

The pointy sponge tip is designed for applying the eyelining shade. I like the fact that I am able to draw very thin lines along my lash lines with this sponge tip. Because the tip can’t pick up that much eyeshadow powder, I have to line my eyes one small section at a time. It is a little time-consuming (despite the high pigmentation level of the dark brown), but I can create a fairly subtle and natural look.

The lid of the palette is predominantly in a soft shade of pink and it features a ribbon motif in gold. It is one of the more feminine designs of the line’s eyeshadow palettes.

Overall I like this palette. The main aim of the Nudy Impression Eyes range is to create depth and dimension for the eyes in a natural and seamless way (without strong colors or very shimmery finishes), and I think 02 Gold Brown does achieve the aim for me. (The fact that the sponge tip for the eyelining shade is designed to draw very thin lines along the lash lines also reflects the concept of natural and seamless depth and dimension of this range.) While I do like the colors in this palette, I find the creaminess of the powder, the finishes of the colors and how well the colors blend with one another particularly appealing.
