I wrote about Pidite‘s Clear Smooth Powder in my Stash Debut series last August, and today I will be reviewing the line’s Prism Brighter.
PDC Pidite Prism Brighter (PDC ピディット プリズムブライター/ PDC Pidite 幻彩光透蜜粉餅, 9g , ¥1600) was released in Japan in spring/summer 2016. It contains four shades (white, pale peach, pale green and pale lavender) that are designed to be mixed together, and it can be used as a finishing powder or a highlighter. When mixed, the various shades have a light-to-moderate pigmentation level and show up as a porcelain white with subtle cool undertones. The powder has a velvety finish with semi-sparse multi-hued shimmer. It is easy to apply and blend, and it has a good staying power.
The product is designed to deal with dullness, pores and fine lines, and it does achieve what it is designed to do. The white and off-white pigments brighten the complexion and the velvety finish has skin-smoothing efficacy. It also has a noticeable shine-controlling effect, which appeals to me.
As a finishing powder, the color is a little too pale and whitish for my light-to-medium skin tone and the cool undertones (presumably from the pale green and the pale lavender) do not look natural on my warm-toned complexion. Also, the shimmering particles are not sparse enough and their shimmering effect is a little too strong for me.
The product is fairly pigmented (as a finishing powder), and I find that I can easily over-apply it with the enclosed puff. It looks more natural on me when I apply it with a brush. (It looks less whitish and very slightly less sparkly, and the cool undertones look less pronounced.) However, there is less pore coverage and slightly less shine control when the product is applied with a brush.
It works a little better for me as a highlighter, but I still need to apply it quite light-handly with a brush to avoid an unnatural look. (It is much easier to apply the product (as a highlighter) with a brush to layer the product and to blend and diffuse the edges more accurately.)
Overall, the product doesn’t work particularly well for me. Even though I can use a brush to apply it to avoid an overly whitish look, I find it to be too shimmery as a finishing powder and as a highlighter. I might try to find another way to use this product. (Perhaps it will work as an eyeshadow base……)
