I reviewed Anna Sui‘s Rose Cheek Color N in 01 a couple of months ago, and today I will be sharing my thoughts on Rose Cheek Color N in 02.

Anna Sui Rose Cheek Color N in 02 (アナ スイ ローズ チーク カラー N 02/ 安娜蘇 雪綻光紫境頰彩 02) was released in Japan as part of Anna Sui Holiday Snow Collection in 02 Thawed Heart (アナ スイ ホリデイ スノー コレクション 02 Thawed Heart/ 安娜蘇 雪綻光紫境寶盒彩妝組 02 融雪之心, limited edition, ¥6700) from holiday 2015. It features four shades. They are:

  • light-to-medium warm pink, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, velvety-to-satiny with semi-sparse shimmer
  • light medium-to-cool pink, lightly-to-moderately (towards lightly) pigmented, with pearlescence and shimmer
  • light beige, subtly pigmented, velvety with subtle low-toned shimmer
  • cream white, lightly pigmented, softly glowy with very subtle low-toned shimmer

All the four shades are easy to apply and blend. The light-reflective particles in all of them are multi-hued, and the pearlescence in the light medium-to-cool pink is predominantly gold-toned. The two pink shades have a good staying power, and the cream white has a decent staying power. The light beige doesn’t last well on me.

The light-to-medium warm pink goes on darker and it looks natural on me. While it is not too shimmery for me, I do wish it were a little bit less shimmery.

The light medium-to-cool pink also goes on darker. The shade itself looks natural on me and does appeal to me, but the finish is too pearly and a little too shimmery for me. By the time the shade (which is not very pigmented) has been layered a few times to reach a satisfactory level of color intensity, the finish has become very pearly and shimmery. It is not a flattering finish for me as it exaggerates the appearance of pores. Even though I like the gold tone of the pearlescence, the overall light-reflective effect is too glary for me.

The shade works better for me when it is layered light-handedly on the cheekbones over the warm pink or when it is mixed with the warm pink. When it is layered light-handedly over the warm pink, it creates a dewy finish and the gold tone of its pearlescence looks less obvious. When the two shades are mixed, they show up as a light-to-medium medium-toned pink and the gold tone of the pearlescence from the medium-to-cool pink looks even less obvious. The mixed shade looks relatively more warm-toned when the light hits it directly (presumably due to the gold tone of the pearlescence, which adds warmth to the mixed shade and doesn’t look obviously gold-ish), and it looks relatively more cool-toned when it is not under direct light. It has a complex shimmery finish that does not exaggerate the appearance of pores too much, and its nuanced color tones appeal to me. (Between these two ways, I prefer mixing the two pinks.)

(I don’t think the light medium-to-cool pink can be used as a highlighter on its own since it is probably too pink-toned for most skin tones. (Again, it goes on darker (more pinkish) than it looks in the pan.))

The cream white is a fairly competent highlighting shade. It is not too glowy or too shimmery, and I like its relatively low-key highlighting effect.

The light beige shows up as a subtle veil of shimmer with very little color, but the velvety finish does noticeably help diffuse the appearance of pores. It is not particularly long-lasting on me. It disappears almost as soon as shine develops.

The packaging of this product is the same as that of Rose Cheek Color N in 01.

Overall the product appeals to me. The color depths and tones of the two pink shades suit me, and the cream white works fairly well for me as a highlighting shade. Even though I generally prefer a matte finish for blushers, I enjoy using this blusher palette and seeing the various finishes it can create.
