SUQQU‘s spring 2016 makeup collection features two new shades of Bright Up Lipstick. I had a chance to test them, and 09 Azamibae turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I purchased it after testing it for the second time on a later date.
SUQQU Bright Up Lipstick in 09 Azamibae (スック ブライト アップ リップスティック 09 薊映/ SUQQU 晶采亮澤脣膏 09 薊映, ¥5000 in Japan, £27 in the UK) is a deep cool-toned cherry pink with a just-above-medium pigmentation level. Two things surprised me when I tested it for the first time at the counter. Firstly, it was glossier and more translucent than almost all the Bright Up Lipstick shades released previously. Secondly, it was a lot cooler than how I expected it to be, as, on quite a few of the images I had come across, it looked like a red with a very slight cool tone.
(Between SUQQU’s Bright Up Lipstick and Creamy Glow Lipstick Moist (with its various finishes), Bright Up Lipstick is on the whole more pigmented, more opaque and less glossy.)
It glides easily and feels lightweight and hydrating, and it imparts a soft watery shine on the lips with no shimmer. (In comparison, Creamy Glow Lipstick Moist in 09 Zakuroseki has more of an emollient gloss and it feels slightly denser and more balm-like.)
Its finish is fairly long-lasting, and its color is very long-lasting. The deep-pink pigment stains the lips, and, after the glossy finish gradually wears off, the velvety-matte stained look lasts for nearly a whole day.
Despite its pigmentation level, it is possible to create a slightly sheerer and subtler look with a thin layer of it. The stained look afterwards will be less pronounced.
Overall, 09 Azamibae combines a fairly high level of pigmentation with translucency. It is a vibrant color, and I like how it brightens up my complexion. When I want it to look less dramatic, I take advantage of its adjustable coverage and go for a subtler look.
