Kesalan Patharan started a product revamp in 2012 with the launch of Moisturizing Eyecolor and it also released Cheek Color in summer 2013. Both products caught my attention with their wide ranges of colors and new gold packaging, and I decided to try Moisturizing Eyecolor in E01 Elegant Violet.
Kesalan Patharan Moisturizing Eyecolor in E01 Elegant Violet (ケサランパサラン モイスチャライジングアイカラー E01 エレガントバイオレット, ¥5000) was released in holiday 2012. It is a purple-toned palette featuring an off-white cream, a light lilac-y pink, a medium-depth purple and a dark purple. All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They all have a good staying power.
The two main shades in the palette are the light lilac-y pink and the medium-depth purple. The light lilac-y pink is softly pearly while the medium-depth purple has a shimmery finish. As, finish-wise, it is often the other way around with many of the pink-purple eyeshadow palettes I have come across, this arrangement makes this palette a little more interesting.
While I love the color tone of the medium-depth purple (not too warm or too cool for me), I do have some issues with it. Firstly, its pigmentation level is just below medium, and I wish it were a little more pigmented. Secondly, it goes on slightly lighter than it looks in the pan, and I would prefer a slightly darker shadowing shade. Thirdly, its shimmery finish does not look as dimensional as those from some of the similar shades I have tried. I am being picky here with the finish only because I do have to compare it with those of some of my favorite purple shades (such as the purples from Lunasol’s Sheer Contrast Eyes in 02 Lavender Coral and Integrate Pure Big Eyes in VI221).
The palette comes with two double-ended applicators. All four ends are brushes, which is a little unusual. I think the smallest one, which is for applying the eyelining shade, needs to be more tapered.
I like the gold lid of the case. It shimmers beautifully under the light.
Overall, this is still a decently nice palette. The colors harmonize with one another well, and the palette creates a soft and feminine look. I do like it more than Kesalan Patharan’s Eye Color Palette in S007, but this is not among my favorite purple-toned palettes.
I was surprised to see the launch of Eye Color N in April 2015 as part of Kesalan Patharan’s summer 2015 makeup collection. (The launch was less than two and a half years after the release of Moisturizing Eyecolor.) At the moment, the only Moisturizing Eyecolor palettes that are listed on the brand’s website are E02 Elegant Brown (from holiday 2012), G02 Glamorous Brown (from holiday 2012), IC02 Innocent Brown (from spring 2014) and IG03 Intelligent Blue (from spring 2014).
