Ever since Chicca‘s debut in spring 2008, I had been wanting to try something from the brand. (See my profile of the brand here.) I was fairly interested in Flush Blush (a cream blusher), which was in the brand’s launch lineup. However, I thought I’d wait for a powder-based blusher to be released. (I tend to prefer powder-based blushers.) To my delight, Flush Blush Powder was launched as part of the brand’s spring/summer 2013 base makeup collection, and I purchased 04 Sweet Pink in 2014.

Kanebo Chicca Flush Blush Powder in 04 Sweet Pink (カネボウ キッカ フラッシュブラッシュ パウダー 04 スウィートピンク, refill ¥3000, case (brush not included) ¥2000) was released in fall 2013. (Flush Blush Powder was launched with three shades in spring/summer 2013.) It is a light-to-medium medium-toned pink with a light-to-medium pigmentation level and a velvety semi-matte soft-focused finish. In the pan, the shade looks subtly shimmery, but the shimmer doesn’t look obvious on the cheeks. The powder is very easy to apply and blend, and the staying power is decently good.

(Flush Blush Powder Brush, a retractable blusher brush, is available separately (¥3000).)

Like a few other Japanese beauty brands, Chicca categorizes its blushers (Flush Blush and Flush Blush Powder) under base makeup, not point (color) makeup. The idea is that blushers help finish off the facial canvas with a touch of color. This item certainly does that, as it creates a subtle flush for the cheeks. The color is soft and natural, and the velvety finish looks understated and polished.

The exterior of the white case for the blusher has a pearlescent finish, and I also like the jewel detail next to the brand name. (The case comes with a white velvet pouch, which looks fairly luxurious but can be a little high-maintenance.)

Marketed towards a more mature clientèle, Chicca, for me, has a gentle and sophisticated image with touches of class and glamour. I feel that my experience with this item does match the impression I have had for the brand. Overall, this easy-to-wear blusher works for both a subtle casual look and a polished formal look. Even though it is easy to see why its shade and finish are designed to appeal to more mature customers, there is of course no reason why its high quality shouldn’t be enjoyed by others.
