When I saw the initial images of Lunasol‘s Vivid Clear Eyes from spring 2013, I thought the neutral-toned variations seemed a little too light for me. Later on, I had a chance to see the range in person and I decided to pick up 04 Khaki Beige Collection.
Kanebo Lunasol Vivid Clear Eyes in 04 Khaki Beige Collection (カネボウ ルナソル ヴィヴィッドクリアアイズ 04 Khaki Beige Collection/ 佳麗寶 日月晶采 晶巧光燦眼盒 (艷采) 04, ¥5000) was one of the five variations released in spring 2013. (Two limited-edition variations were released in summer 2013. Two palettes with a similar split-pan layout were released in the brand’s Summer Kit 2013 and holiday 2013 makeup collection.) The five shades in 04 Khaki Beige Collection are (clockwise from top left):
– cream white, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, softly shimmery
– (left in the split pan) off-white golden yellow, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, softly shimmery
– (right in the split pan) light golden yellow, lightly-to-moderately pigmented, pearly with gentle shimmer
– dark brown with a hint of gold, well-pigmented, shimmery
– golden beige brown, moderately pigmented, shimmery
All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They are very blendable and have a good staying power.
The off-white golden yellow and the light golden yellow in the split pan are designed to be mixed together, and the light golden yellow can look quite brightly yellow on its own if I am a little heavy-handed with it. I don’t always like mixing two eyeshadow shades but I do usually mix these two before applying them.
The golden beige brown is just dark enough to be a nice shadowing shade that creates some depth for the eyes, and it has a yellow-based warm tone that appeals to me a lot. Even though I wish it were just a little bit darker, I do find that the golden beige brown and the dark brown (which I use to line the upper lashlines) are able to create a good deal of definition for the eyes due to their considerable difference in color depth.
Among the four neutral-toned eyeshadow palettes from Lunasol that I have, this is my favorite at the moment. (The other three are Skin Modeling Eyes in 01 Beige Beige, Aurorize Eyes in 02 Light Variation and Ocean Scene Eyes in EX-01 Shelly Ocean.) It is easy to wear, fresh-looking and particularly suitable for daytime. However, there are a few neutral-toned palettes that I prefer (such as Coffret d’Or’s Beauty Face Shadow in 02 Cream Brown and Visée’s Glossy Rich Eyes in BR-5 Gold Brown). As I continue to enjoy using it, I feel that my quest to find my own ultimate neutral-toned palette from Lunasol is likely to go on.
(I purchased this palette in 2014. Later on, I noticed that it was taken off Lunasol’s official website. I assume that it has been discontinued in Japan, but I thought I’d still share my thoughts on it. (The three variations of Vivid Clear Eyes that are still featured on the website at the moment are 01 Blue Green Collection, 02 Pink Collection and 03 Orange Collection.))

Oh, I am so glad that I picked this up a month ago(yet to dig in though). I have and love the 05 pink beige collection (the rose gold was especially flattering during spring and summer, not so much now my skins gets purple from the colder weather) and also ended up getting the bronze-brown collection from the summer limited release…Lunasol keeps sacking the good ones!
Hi Mina,
I enjoyed reading your review of 05 Pink Beige Collection, and I hope you will like 04 Khaki Beige Collection and EX01 Bronze Brown Collection as well!
I also enjoyed reading your review of Integrate’s Pure Big Eyes in VI221 (and your thoughts on brand revamps), and I am so pleased that you like it! Indeed, many lilac eyeshadows turn ashy but the lilac in VI221 stays fresh-looking on the eyes. It is certainly one of my favorite purple-toned palettes.
Thank you very much for posting your comment again! :)
