Released in holiday 2014, Dramatic Rouge was the product with which Shiseido started the renewing process for Maquillage. As we have seen in the last couple of seasons, the new Maquillage features new product concepts, designs and packaging. Today, I will be talking about Dramatic Rouge in RS329 Rose Rendezvous.
Shiseido Maquillage Dramatic Rouge in RS329 Rose Rendezvous (資生堂 マキアージュ ドラマティックルージュ RS329 ローズ ランデブー/ 資生堂心機星魅唇膏 RS329 典雅玫瑰, ¥3000) is a well-pigmented medium-to-deep rose with a glossy and subtly shimmery finish. It has a very soft and buttery texture. Both the color and the finish last well, and the lips feel moisturized throughout the wear. (See notes on the product name at the end of this post.)
According to the press information from Shiseido (from www.shiseidogroup.jp & www.urcosme.com), the mixture of oils used in this product will separate into two layers once the lipstick is applied. The Coat Oil on the outside creates a glossy finish and a protective barrier against moisture loss, while the Rich Oil on the inside holds pigment and moisturizing ingredients and ensures the pigment’s even and long-lasting adherence to the lips. Shiseido suggests placing the lipstick on the lower lip for two seconds (so that the body temperature will help release the oil mixture) before application.
I did try placing the lipstick on the lower lip for a couple of seconds, and I could feel (and see) that the lipstick started to melt almost immediately. The lipstick then glided across the lips very smoothly and dispensed both color and gloss very efficiently. (It was a little like applying a liquid lip color.) The pigment-packed formulation creates a color-rich finish with one layer (or even with a few gentle dabs). The finish is more of an emollient (but not oily-looking) gloss than of a watery shine. The shimmery finish is predominantly warm-toned with mostly subtly gold-toned shimmery particles.
RS329 Rose Rendezvous has the rose tone that creates a feminine and grown-up look, but it also has touches of vibrancy that brighten up the complexion. I like the tone of the color, but, with this product formulation, I would prefer a lighter shade. (Because it is well-pigmented and dispenses color very efficiently, there is little room for variation in color intensity and it is not easy to create a sheerer or subtler look.)
Below are the 17 shades that are currently available (10 shades from holiday 2014 and 7 shades from spring 2015). (BE351 and RD454 further below are limited editions from spring 2015.) The RS329 worn on the model reflects the actual color fairly accurately.

The packaging of the lipstick has a glamorous look and a retro feel. It is very different from almost anything else that we saw from Maquillage before. Some think it is too bling-y, but I personally like it. (All the shades have the same red rim on the bottom of the lid. It doesn’t indicate the specific product color.)
Dramatic Rouge does live up to Shiseido’s promise of a lipstick that is pigment-rich, moisturizing and long-lasting (three elements that don’t often co-exist in a lipstick). Formulation-wise, this is quite an outstanding product, and I can see why it has been popular in Japan. (At www.cosme.net, it ranks first for the award for the best lipstick released in the first half of 2015.)
For more images of all the 17 shades of Dramatic Rouge, see the blog posts here and here. (On me, RS329 looks closer to the color in the group swatch photo than to the colors on the blogger’s lips.)
(The English name “Dramatic Melting Rouge” is printed on the box of the product. For the sake of consistency regarding English translations of product names in Japanese, I am adopting the direct translation of the original product name in Japanese. The two names refer to the same product.)

Ahhh, I was really curious about this (I know the formulation would be good like the rest of maquillage lippie but I was afraid that the I will get a bold dose of color+highshine+shimmer (which would be too much for me) I think I will get one once I finish the essence glamorous rouge…It’s just too hard to pick one color…
Hi Citrine (Mina),
The formulation is indeed very good, but I do agree with you that it can be difficult to choose a color. Even though none of the shades is too bold, most of them are quite pigmented. RS329 is only subtly shimmery, but you do get intense color and considerable gloss.
I haven’t tried Essence Glamorous Rouge, but I know that it is another very popular product!

Wow, this looks like a very pretty formula! But difficult to pick just one color.
Hi Kuri,
The formulation of the product is certainly very good, and I will be keeping track of all the upcoming shades. I wouldn’t mind getting another shade from this range. Perhaps a lighter RS shade……
