Back in 2008, I posted about the cute nail and cuticle oils I had. As I said, they are not absolute necessities for me and I don’t use them on a daily basis. However, I did get two more in the last couple of years. (Yes, I still like the cute-looking ones……)
Jill Stuart Treatment Nail Essence (10ml, ¥1800) was released in Japan in June 2013 as part of the brand’s summer 2013 nail color & care collection, which followed the brand’s summer 2013 makeup collection, released in Japan in April.
It has a light oil texture and is absorbed quite easily. It features mineral oil, lavender oil, avocado oil, apricot kernel oil and peach kernel oil. It has a subtle floral scent that is the same as the scent in Jill Stuart’s makeup products.
There is a pink Swarovski crystal in the bottle.
The cap features a Swarovski rhinestone.
I believe the look of Jill Stuart’s nail color bottle has changed twice. This current look debuted in spring 2013.
Paul & Joe Nail Treatment Oil (12ml, ¥2000, £14 in the UK) was released in summer 2014, when the brand renewed its nail color lineup.
It also has a light oil texture and is absorbed relatively easily. It features mineral oil, jojoba seed oil, camellia japonica seed oil, sunflower seed oil, lavender oil, olive fruit oil, sweet almond oil and corn oil.
It is more fragranced than Jill Stuart Treatment Nail Essence, and the scent can linger for quite some time. Interestingly, its rose scent is virtually the same as the scent from Anna Sui’s makeup products. In a way, this is probably not that surprising since the beauty sectors of Paul & Joe and Anna Sui are both licensed under Kosé (so is the beauty sector of Jill Stuart), but it is still slightly odd for a Paul & Joe product to feature Anna Sui’s signature scent. (There is a bit of a sensory mismatch when I use the product.)
The new nail items feature a new bottle design. I wasn’t sure if I liked the new design in the beginning since I was so used to the original look of the bottle, but I do like it now.
This is the third version of nail and cuticle oil from Paul & Joe. The first one is Nail Treatment Oil (the one I have), which was launched in spring 2005. The second one is Nail Care Oil, which was released in spring 2008 and had virtually the same bottle design as that of the original Nail Treatment Oil.
Both products work well for me. The main difference is the fragrance, as Paul & Joe Nail Treatment Oil has a sharper fragrance while Jill Stuart Treatment Nail Essence has a subtler and more mellow scent.
