In October, in my Stash Debut series, I reviewed Canmake‘s Cheek Gradation in 06 Candy Stripe, which was my first purchase from the brand. Wanting to try something else from Canmake, I decided to get Cheek & Cheek in 02 Rose Tiara.

Cheek & Cheek (¥680) was launched in April 2011, and 02 Rose Tiara features a light pink and a bubblegum pink. In contrast to the four shades in Cheek Gradation in 06 Candy Stripe, the two shades in this palette have a predominantly velvety matte finish with fine and relatively sparse light-reflective particles.

The powder has a reasonably smooth texture. The colors are easy to blend and they have a good staying power.

The instructions printed on the back of the case suggest two different looks. For the first one, apply the bubblegum pink and then apply the light pink as a highlighter under the eyes and just above the cheekbones. (The two shades should overlap slightly.) For the second one, apply the bubblegum pink and then apply the light pink on top and over the edge of the bubblegum pink to create a soft gradation.

For the second look, what I have done so far is to apply the light pink first as a base and then apply the bubblegum pink over a smaller area. Compared with the first look, the bubblegum pink looks softer and more pastel-y when blended with the light pink.

Canmake’s official website shows another way to wear Cheek & Cheek (the first one in the image below):

The bubblegum pink is one of the most pigmented blusher shades I have come across (from both Japanese and western brands). Make sure you start with as little as you can and build up the color intensity gradually.

The looks this palette creates tend to be very girlie, as the bubblegum pink is quite a bright color. The fact that it has a predominantly matte finish gives the color itself more impact. Even though I do generally go for cool-toned blusher shades, this blusher palette is still fairly different from most of the ones I have and it is fun to be experimental with it.
