For holiday 2014, Paul & Joe released Makeup Collection 2014 as part of its holiday 2014 makeup and bodycare collection. I was instantly attracted to the lovely floral print on the eyeshadow case and the makeup pouch. The item is available in two sets, and I went for 001 Little Star.
Makeup Collection 2014 in 001 Little Star (limited edition, £38) includes:
– Eye Color T in 001
– Lip & Cheek Color T in 001
– Pouch
(I sometimes leave pretty makeup items like these unused for a while. To bring you a more timely review, I will describe the colors, finishes and pigmentation levels based on the swatches I did in the store.)
The case of Eye Color T features Paul & Joe’s main seasonal print for holiday 2014. The Pouch and the outer box of the set feature the same print.
001 features lilac, pink and pale yellow. They are all fairly sheer and have a subtly shimmery finish.
These shades remind me of the early days of Paul & Joe, when most of its eyeshadows were quite sheer and imparted a soft wash of color on the eyes.
(The brown eyeshadow in Eye Color T in 002 in the other set (002 Wishing on a Star) is the only eyeshadow shade among the six in the two sets that creates depth for the eyes. All the other shades are quite light.)
Lip & Cheek Color T is contained in a white opaque tube with a gold band on the lid. The lid is embossed with the brand’s chrysanthemum motifs. It is dispensed with a sponge applicator.
001 is a strawberry pink. It has a lightweight mousse consistency and is very malleable. It has a stained finish with no gloss or shimmer. Its pigmentation level is what you would generally expect from a cheek tint/stain, and the color intensity is adjustable.
The Pouch has a flap/folding cover that closes magnetically. The lining is pink, as you see in the photos at the top. The wintry blue and gray tones are balanced by the warm red hues, and the gold rim along the cover finishes off the design nicely. I really like this elegant and relatively understated print and its interpretation of the season. It seems to depict a subdued winter scene as well as an anticipation of the coming spring.
(Note that Makeup Collection 2014 is available at Selfridges but not at Harrods. It is the only item from the holiday 2014 collection that the Paul & Joe counter at Harrods doesn’t stock.)
