For fall 2012, Kanebo Coffret d’Or released four limited-edition sets of Beauty Collection Total Designing Set. Each set included a variation of Beauty Face Shadow, which was first released as part of the line’s late summer/ early fall 2012 makeup collection. As I really liked 02 Cream Brown from the collection (it is still among my favorite neutral-toned eyeshadow palettes), I decided to go for Beauty Collection Total Designing Set in EX-2, featuring Beauty Face Shadow in 05 Lavender Purple.
Beauty Collection Total Designing Set in EX-2 includes:
– Beauty Face Shadow in 05 Lavender Purple (exclusive to this set)
– Color Blush in RS-17 (exclusive to this set and the set in EX-1)
– Bright Up Rouge (Creamy Liquid) in BE-202 (limited-edition size and packaging)
The five shades in Beauty Face Shadow in 05 Lavender Purple are (clockwise from bottom left):
– off-white, lightly pigmented, velvety with very subtle pale-pink iridescence
– light lilac, slightly-above-lightly pigmented, softly shimmery and sparkly
– ivory (cream-to-powder consistency), lightly pigmented, softly shimmery
– medium-depth mauve, moderately pigmented, with a soft pearly glow
– dark plum, pigmented, velvety with subtle shimmer
(Note that there are two separate shades on the left of the palette, the light lilac at the top and the off-white at the bottom.)
All the shades have multi-hued light-reflective particles. They all have a good staying power.
(To read about the concept of the Beauty Face Shadow series and the application instructions for the three pale shades, please have a look at the post on the variation in 02 Cream Brown (link above).)
I have to say I much prefer 02 Cream Brown to this palette. First of all, the cream-to-powder ivory base in 02 Cream Brown has a velvety finish with a subtle glow and without any obvious shimmer, which appeals to me a lot, but the cream-to-powder base in this palette is shimmery and I find it just a little too shimmery as an overall base for the eyelids (especially for daytime wear).
Secondly, the finish of the subtly pearly mauve is slightly less dimensional than that of the golden brown in 02 Cream Brown (which is more shimmery).
Thirdly, just to be very picky, I would like the mauve to be a little bit darker so that it could create more depth for the eyes.
In terms of texture, one thing about this palette that does impress me is that the dark plum is silkier and creamier than the already very smooth dark brown in 02 Cream Brown.
It seems that the design of this variation in terms of finish is quite different from that of 02 Cream Brown as the shimmer is moved from the shadowing shade to the cream-to-powder base. The overall effect is considerably different.
The four palettes in the four limited-edition sets all feature rose motifs. The cases of 01 Peach Brown and 05 Lavender Purple are pink, while those of 02 Cream Brown and 06 Lime Khaki are yellow.
The Color Blush is housed in a small tin case, also with rose motifs. The small puff can be stored in the case.
Color Blush in RS-17 is a lightly-pigmented light muted warm pink with gold-toned iridescence and a hint of multi-hued pearly shimmer. The shade is quite easy to wear, and the iridescence and the shimmer look relatively subtle on the cheeks.
Recently, liquid lipsticks have been popular in Japan. The hybrid product combines the pigmentation of a lipstick and the shine from a lip gloss. Bright Up Rouge (Creamy Liquid) is an example of this type of product.
Bright Up Rouge (Creamy Liquid) in BE-202 is a lightly-to-moderately pigmented beige pink with very fine multi-hued shimmer. One layer creates a translucent look with a soft lacquer shine, and the color and the lacquer finish can be intensified with a second layer. The pigment doesn’t settle into liplines and the staying power is decent.
The beige-toned pink is perhaps not a shade I would have chosen, and I prefer a glossy and watery shine to a lacquer shine. However, I can understand the appeal of this type of product as I can get both color and shine from one single product. (It certainly makes touch-ups much easier.)
With this set, I probably wouldn’t put mauve/plum eyeshadows and a beige-pink lip color together (for myself), but it is interesting to see how Coffret d’Or combined colors to come up with various seasonal looks. (The line also released four limited-edition sets of Beauty Collection Total Designing Set 2013 for fall 2013. The sets featured variations of 3D Gradation Eyes (first released as part of the line’s late summer/ early fall 2013 makeup collection).)
