As I mentioned in the post on Dior‘s summer 2014 Transat makeup collection, the Diorskin Nude Tan Transat Edition was love at second sight. I then had a look at it in person just to be sure and purchased it with my Boots points.
Dior Diorskin Nude Tan Transat Edition (Golden Shimmer Powder – Face & Décolleté with Kabuki Brush) (1 shade, 6.5g, £40) is the brand’s seasonal limited-edition collector’s item for summer 2014. It is a lightly-to-moderately pigmented champagne-gold highlighting powder with very fine multi-colored shimmer. It has a high-toned pearly finish and a metallic sheen. It is one of the pearliest highlighting powders I have come across.
The smooth texture and the high-toned finish of the powder actually resemble those of typical eyeshadows with pearly/metallic finishes, and it does work very well as an eyeshadow. (It is pigmented and pearly/metallic enough to be an eyeshadow, and it doesn’t look too frosty on the eyelids.) It can be worn as a base underneath other eyeshadows or on its own to add a pearlescent glow to the eyes.
Wherever you use it, make sure you blend it well to avoid any unnaturally and glaringly metallic patches.
I like the rope design details, which look as delicate as they do in the promotional images. (The rope detail along the edge covers a small part of the letter “E”, so “NUDE” looks more like “NUDF” to me……)
The powder comes with a small kabuki brush. The hair is dense and relatively soft. The product also comes with a velvet pouch, which stores the compact but not the kabuki brush.
The compact feels decently weighty and substantial. The reflective lid features Dior’s quilt patterns, which I like very much. The reflective quilt design was also featured by Dior Blue-Tie for fall 2011 (with a rectangular case).
Personally, I prefer using the powder for the eyes. It is like using a giant eyeshadow, which is oddly satisfying……
(One small note: It says “Made in France” on the back of the compact, but it says “Made in Italy” on the box. This doesn’t bother me, but I do find it a little bizarre.)
