Last week, I reviewed Paul & Joe‘s Face Powder S in 001 Secret Garden from the brand’s spring 2014 makeup collection. Today, I am sharing my thoughts on Lipstick CS in 085 Peony, which is also from Paul & Joe’s spring 2014 limited-edition Collection Sparkles (within the brand’s spring 2014 makeup collection).
Lipstick CS in 085 Peony (£14 (refill only, case sold separately)) is one of Paul & Joe’s three new lipsticks for spring 2014. Compared with the other two (084 Poppy, a peachy orange, and 086 Rosebud, a rose red), 085 Peony is the most wearable for me. It is a sheer light cool-toned pink with a hint of pink-toned shimmer and a softly glossy finish. The texture is very smooth and it feels moisturizing on the lips.
As it is only lightly pigmented, I need a couple of layers for the color to show up on my lips. (However, it is not as sheer as most tinted lip balms.) The shimmering particles are very fine and relatively sparse, and they don’t look too obvious on the lips.
I like how it adds a hint of pink to my lips and how well it works with my natural lip color. While some other sheer light colors that are lighter than my natural lip color can seem to be floating unnaturally on my lips (as they don’t blend with my lip color), 085 Peony works well for me because it doesn’t have any off-white milky tone or pale beige tone. Even though the shade is light, it has enough pinkness to look natural on me. The cool-toned pink also suits my complexion.
Overall, this is an easy-to-wear light pink that will appeal to those who want a subtle natural look with a hint of color and a dewy sheen. It is a very fresh spring/summer shade.
Apart from the three limited-edition lipstick refills, there are three limited-edition Lipstick Cases CS (£7 each). I didn’t like any of them so I only purchased the refill. I am sure there will be new cases in the next few seasons.
