Fall 2011 Makeup Review: Paul & Joe Face & Eye Color CS in 073 42nd Street & Lipstick C in 072 SoHo

Inspired by the glamour, vibrancy and sophistication of New York City, Paul & Joe‘s Manhattan fall 2011 makeup collection features eye-catching shades housed in the brand’s usual feminine and elegant packaging. The focus of the collection is on colorful but wearable hues for the eyes and warm-toned shades for the lips and cheeks, and today I am highlighting Face & Eye Color CS in 073 42nd Street & Lipstick C in 072 SoHo.

Face & Eye Color CS in 073 42nd Street contains a combination of warm pink and navy blue. As with many of the lighter eyeshadows from Paul & Joe, the warm pink here is fairly sheer with a velvety finish and a subtle veil of multi-hued shimmer. It takes a bit of layering for the color to show up, but the color does last well and doesn’t fade overtime. On me, it goes on as a raspberry pink that is very slightly more reddish than it looks in the pan. For some people, this shade might have to be applied strategically to avoid the irritated-eye look.

(The eyeshadow duo (as with the other two new variations of Face & Eye Color CS for fall 2011) features the horizontal and vertical stripe design, which is inspired by the streets of New York City. The stripes are fairly thin for most eyeshadow brushes for eyelids, so you do have to apply the pink shade little by little and make sure that the brush doesn’t pick up the blue.)

The blue is my preferred shade in this duo. It is deep and pigmented enough to be a nice eyelining shade and it doesn’t turn grayish overtime. (It is a lot more pigmented than the pink.) It has a velvety finish with a soft veil of predominantly blue-toned shimmer, which looks very pretty.

I have also tried mixing the two colors together, and it shows up as a grayish blue with a pink undertone.

Lipstick C in 072 SoHo is a fairly well-pigmented bright orange red with a satiny finish. (It doesn’t contain any shimmer.) It goes on slightly more orange than it looks and it is quite a bright and dramatic color. It feels decently emollient on the lips, and the color and the finish last well. The brand’s signature chrysanthemum pattern is on the side of the lipstick.

The packaging of Paul & Joe’s Collections Sparkles (the items in paper cases) usually features prints from the brand’s fashion collections from the same seasons. (The hummingbird print from holiday 2006 (which you can also see in my blog header image) is one of my favorites.) The floral print on the cases of the two items above is from the Tricky satin blouse from the brand’s fall/winter 2011 collection. It is my favorite of the three prints used for the Collection Sparkles for fall 2011.
