Founded in 1948 (and with related legends dating back to the 14th century), Carthusia is a niche fragrance brand from Capri, Italy. The brand carries fragrances, bodycare products, and home fragrance items, and it is noted for incorporating local ingredients into its fragrance compositions. Today I am highlighting Carthusia’s Mediterraneo.
Mediterraneo features notes of lemon leaves and green tea. It is a fresh, sunny, cheerful, and unpretentious fragrance in which lemon leaves play the leading role with green tea as a well-matched supporting element. The scent is juicy and sparkling, and its zestiness is more warm (but not sweet) and rounded than dry and sharp.
The scent develops gradually and takes on a hint of woodiness, which forms the drydown with what appears to be the slightly more bitter end of the lemon leaves, which has a grapefruit-like quality.
Mediterraneo is a great summer scent that has an easygoing and relaxing feel. It reminds me of Acqua di Palma’s Blu Mediterraneo range, which I also like very much. Both paint the picture of a sunny Mediterranean vacation.
Carthusia Mediterraneo is available in eau de toilette (pictured above) in 50ml and 100ml and in eau de parfum in 50ml. In the UK, it is available at Avery London. (I have also spotted the eau de toilette at Fenwick Bond Street.)

It sounds like a perfect summer fragrance. How do you find the lasting power?
Hi Kuri,
The one I tried is the eau de toilette. It is generally a light fragrance throughout the wear (which I think goes with the character of the scent), and I would say the lasting power is decent. I do like how the gentle fresh scent lingers on the skin…
Thank you for stopping by again, and enjoy the rest of the weekend! :)
I discovered Carthusia several years ago when my dad brought back some from Capri, Italy. Since then, it’s become available in very select shops in the U.S. & actually one right in my hometown. Mediterraneo is one of my all-time favorites & I wear it all year round to remind me of Italy & the citrus trees I saw there.
Hi Stellina,
I am pleased that you also like this fragrance! The simplicity and the purity of the scent really appeal to me.
It does remind me of Italy a little bit. I would certainly like to take a trip there again!
Thank you very much for posting your comment! :)
