RMK‘s spring 2011 Spring Shimmer makeup collection is a whimsical and colorful collection with both vibrant and wearable shades. The items include those for eyes, cheeks, lips, and nails, and many of them impart a fresh veil of glistening shimmer on the face. Today I am highlighting some of the items in the collection.
Crayon & Powder Eyes is one of the brand’s new products. Each of the double-ended eyeshadows contains one shade in two finishes, a color-rich creamy finish from the crayon and a soft and shimmery finish from the powder. The slim ring of color on the product allows speedy identification of the shade.
According to the application instructions (found in a separate sheet in the outer box), the crayon is used first and then the powder is layered on top to set the color and to add shimmer.
(02 Light Green and 05 Bronze)
02 Light Green is a fresh light minty green. The crayon is pigmented and glides effortlessly without dragging the skin. The powder is loaded evenly from the cap to the sponge. It goes on quite sheer but it does layer to a moderately pigmented finish with shimmer.
05 Bronze is a warm brown which does not look too bronzy. The crayon goes on darker than the powder. Again, the powder is sheerer than the crayon but it layers reasonably well.
I like the differences in color and pigmentation level because the two ends of the product are able to create a soft gradation. (For a simple and wearable look, I suggest lining the eyes with the crayon and applying the powder on the eyelids both to set the crayon and to create a gentle gradation.)
Both the crayon and the powder impart multi-colored shimmer on the eyes. (The shimmer from the crayon in 02 Light Green is predominantly green-toned while the shimmer of the others vary more in color.) Both the colors and the finishes are long-lasting.
The round sponge applicator is bigger than most of the others (that self-load the powder from a cartridge) that I have come across. It dispenses the color very evenly and blends it effortlessly. (The picture above shows the sponge applicator from 02 Light Green next to one of the sponge applicators of Lunasol’s Aurorize Eyes.)
The two shades can also be used together. You can use 02 Light Green (powder) over the eyelids and 05 Bronze (crayon) to line the eyes, or, for an edgier look, you can use 05 Bronze (powder) on the outer 1/2 of the eyes and 02 Light Green (powder) on the inner 1/2 of the eyes and line the eyes with 05 Bronze (crayon).
Sheer Powder Cheeks is another new product from RMK. Three shades are available, and here is a look at 03 Rose, which is the shade used for the ad campaign image above. It is a rose-toned red with multi-colored shimmer. Among blushers from Japanese cosmetics, it is relatively shimmery and intensely pigmented. The powder is very fine and soft and it almost has a wet and creamy feel. This texture gives the powder a great deal of blendability.
It is a shade that we don’t often see in Japanese cosmetics, as it is a little darker than many of the usual RS (Rose) shades. It is also darker than the blusher shades that I tend to go for, but the superb blendability of the powder makes this shade more wearable for me.
The collection also includes five limited-edition shades of Nail Color EX, and pictured above is EX-01 White Orange, a light-to-medium soft orange with no shimmer.
Among these items, I particularly like Crayon & Powder Eyes in 05 Bronze. The crayon and the powder together create natural depth, dimension and gradation for the eyes with minimal effort and without the use of brushes. Since Crayon & Powder Eyes is not a limited-edition product, I am hoping that there will be more shades to be released in the future.

Hi – Love the info on the RMK items. That blush looks gorgeous. do you have the ingredient listing for the RMk blush?
Hi Evie,
I do have the ingredient list of Sheer Powder Cheeks in 03 Rose, but it is in Japanese and I only read basic Japanese. From what I can understand, it contains talc, phenyl trimethicone, mica, hydrogenated polydecene, dimethicone, methicone, tocopherol, paraben, silica, and iron oxide (among other ingredients).
Hope it helps a little, and let me know if there are particular ingredients that you are concerned about.
Thank you for your question! :)
