Botanical Essence No. 1 is Liz Earle‘s first fragrance, as this fresh scent marks a departure from the brand’s root in skincare and bodycare products.
In most cases with fragrances, we are not able to tell which fragrant oils are used in the products from their ingredient lists. (It is usually only “parfum” that is listed as the main fragrance element, along with some minor scenting agents.) But, with Botanical Essence No. 1, besides parfum, numerous plant oils are listed and they give a clear indication to the components of the overall scent.
Some of the oils used for this fragrance are (in the order of appearance on the ingredient list) bergamot fruit oil, lemon peel oil, cedarwood oil, mandarin orange oil, orange peel oil, cardamom seed oil, geranium oil, rosa damascena absolute, lavender oil, coriander seed oil, nutmeg kernel oil, vetivert root oil, tonka bean absolute, and patchouli leaf oil. (They are listed after alcohol and parfum.)
I would characterize this scent as a citrus woody, and some of the oils mentioned above (particularly the first five) should be able to reflect the main character of the scent. It doesn’t have the usual fruity-floral-woody/musky development, and the woodiness of the scent is immediately apparent upon application.
The scent is dry and crisp through and through. The character of the scent more or less remains constant throughout the wear, but it does very slowly take on a slightly creamier dimension.
The scent is very long-lasting on me. Overall I think this scent has an energizing and uplifting feel and should be suitable for both women and men in the coming spring and summer.
Botanical Essence No. 1 is available in eau de parfum in 50ml.
