When it comes to cleansing and toning, Liz Earle‘s product recommendations are very straightforward. The brand only features one cleanser, Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, and one toner, Instant Boost Skin Tonic. Today I am highlighting the toner.
Instant Boost Skin Tonic has a slightly thicker consistency that those of most other toners, which should be largely due to the relatively large amount of aloe vera leaf juice that the product contains (second on the ingredient list, after water). However, it is absorbed quickly and doesn’t feel filmy on the skin.
Some of the moisturizing ingredients in this product are aloe vera leaf juice, glycerin and PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil. It contains anti-oxidants such as cucumber extract, chamomile extract , tocopherol (vitamin E) and tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E). It is alcohol-free and there are no potentially skin-irritating fragrant plant oils in it.
The product is paraben-free but it does contain a small amount of fragrance (parfum).
It uses a locked twist cap as the dispenser. Even though I think the locked cap itself is fuss-free and less fiddly, I often over-dispense the product and end up with a big squirt. Thankfully, the toner is also available in a spritzer container (in 30ml and 200ml), which is a good alternative. (The version with the locked twist cap is available in 50ml and 200ml.)
It suits my Type IV skin and I enjoy its fresh botanical scent, although personally I feel that Lancôme’s Tonique Douceur calms my redness a little better. But overall this is still a well-formulated toner and I think it should suit most other skin types as well.
