Chanel‘s holiday 2010 makeup collection, Les Tentations de Chanel, is chic and romantic. With items for eyes, cheeks, lips and nails, the collection features two distinct color schemes, brown and fuchsia.
The two color schemes are designed to work with each other, but they can of course work on their own. The pink-toned items include:
– Les Tissages de Chanel in Tweed Fuchsia
– Rouge Coco in Magnolia
– Lèvres Scintillantes in Charming
– Lèvres Scintillantes in Pink Pulsion
– Le Vernis in Pulsion
In this review, I am focusing on the brown-toned items in this collection, which include Les 4 Ombres in Tentation Cuivrée and Ombre D’Eau in Splash for the eyes as well as Rouge Coco in Patchouli and Lèvres Scintillantes in Pleasing for the lips.
– Les 4 Ombres in Tentation Cuivrée
Tentation Cuivrée is the star item in this collection. The four shades in this palette are (clock-wise from top right):
– off-white pale pink, moderately pigmented, softly pearly
– dark plum brown, pigmented, very gently shimmery (with cherry-pink shimmer)
– light cool pink, sheer, shimmery
– copper brown with a red undertone, moderately pigmented, shimmery
The light pink is very sheer when it is applied dry with a brush. To get a slightly more intense finish, apply the shade with the sponge applicator in the compact. To get a full-on look, dampen the sponge before applying the shade. The shimmer of the copper brown doesn’t really show up (the pigment does) when the shade is applied dry, but it shows up beautifully with the help of a dampened sponge applicator. (The other two shades show up nicely when applied with a brush.)
The overall look is relatively cool-toned, not because the colors are grey-toned or taupe-toned but because the two light shades have a cool-pink tone and the two darker shades have cool red/plum tones. The colors create a sophisticated look for the eyes, with a touch of femininity.
– Ombre D’Eau in Splash
Splash is a pigmented dark cool-toned chocolate brown with a soft metallic finish. It is one of the darker shades in the Ombre D’Eau range. If you want to use it on the eyelids or on the creases, speedy blending is crucial. I personally like it as an eye-lining shade. (I gently dab an eyeliner brush on the sponge applicator and apply the color close to my lashlines.) Even though it is not water-resistant, it is relatively smudge-proof and the color and finish last very well.
– Rouge Coco in Patchouli
Patchouli is a warm cinnamon brown with a muted pearly finish. I like the fact that it has a moderate amount of pigment and is not too opaque. It is low-key and understated, both in terms of color and finish.
– Lèvres Scintillantes in Pleasing
Pleasing is a burgundy brown with multi-colored (predominantly pink-toned) shimmer. The finish is more of a glossy sheen than a glassy shine. It is quite shimmer-rich (but not frosty) and I love the way the shimmery particles glimmer.
The items reviewed above work very well together to create a chic and sophisticated party look. The cooler pink/red/plum tones of the items for the eyes complement the slightly warmer cinnamon/burgundy tones of the lip items. (Ombre D’Eau in Splash doesn’t have any of the red-based tones mentioned above but it does work well with Tentation Cuivrée as an eye-lining shade.) These very well-coordinated items should also go well with the fuchsia-toned items in this collection.
The collection will be available in the UK from November 5th.

Hi Tam,
As I mentioned in my FAQ page, I don’t post swatches or images of the items being worn on the face.
I am very sorry about this, but thank you very much for your feedback! :)
The colors in the palette are simply lovely!!! They would look beautiful on nearly any skin tone. I like when shadows have shimmer but not overboard. Thank you for all your lovely pictures, descriptions and reviews.
Hi Dee,
You are very welcome! :)
I do think the palette would indeed suit many skin tones. I particularly like the shimmer in the light cool pink, especially when the shade is worn wet. The shimmer is flattering and not too sparkly.
Thank you for stopping by! :)
