After a long time of indecision, I finally decided to get Lavshuca’s Eye Color Select in BR-1 a couple of months ago. (I try to make sure that I deliberate enough about each makeup purchase, even with items that are not particularly pricey.)
Kanebo Lavshuca released Eye Color Select back in spring 2007, and I have PK-1 and BU-1. I also have PU-2, which was released in fall 2007. At the time, I didn’t have much interest in neutral-toned palettes. But being in my neutral phase for the last few seasons, I couldn’t resist going back to one of my favorite eyeshadow ranges for one more helping.
The four shades in the palette are (clock-wise from top left):
– creamy off-white, shimmery
– pale peachy beige, very sparkly
– slightly warm medium-to-dark brown, softly shimmery
– beige-brown with a bronze undertone, shimmery and very softly metallic
(If these colors look too warm for you, you can try the cooler BR-2.)
All the shades have multi-colored shimmer, and they stay on well. (The sparkle fallout is relatively minimal.)
The creamy off-white (top left) can be slightly too shimmery for some people as a base. I like it as a highlighter, as its color is more natural than a true white.
The shade that sets the tone for the palette is the warm beige-brown (bottom left). Its bronze undertone is soft enough so it doesn’t look harsh on me, and it creates a natural dimension for the eyes.
On the other hand, I need to be more careful about the very sparkly pale peachy beige (top right). The sparkles do look very pretty and they add impact to the eyes, but I usually go light-handed with the shade for daytime.
This is overall quite a shimmery palette. Both the base shade and the lining shade are more shimmery than many other base/lining shades in the eye palettes from Japanese brands that I have. Personally I don’t often like matte neutrals (which can look muddy on me), and I do prefer neutral shades to carry at least a little bit of shimmer to look fresher and more vibrant.
I am very glad that I decided to go for BR-1. It is very wearable, and the look it creates is warm and sensual. Even though this neutral palette is generally work-appropriate (provided that the sparkly peachy beige is avoided or worn minimally), I think the palette’s sensual colors and shimmery finishes are probably more suitable for evenings and days off work.
