Coffret D’Or Jewelcious Eyes in Purple Amethyst

in -Coffret d'Or, -Kanebo, 2010 Spring, all about Japanese cosmetics, makeup, makeup - eyeshadow, stash focus

In the last few seasons, I have been picky about what makeup items to buy. However, I couldn’t resist Coffret D’Or‘s Jewelcious Eyes in 05 Purple Amethyst. Firstly, it is purple, and, secondly, it is Coffret D’Or.

The Jewelcious Eyes series is part of Kanebo Coffret D’Or’s spring 2010 collection, and there are five variations available. I was also interested in 04 Amber Beige, but, after seeing some photos of the palette, I thought that it might be too cool-toned for me.

The four shades in 04 Purple Amethyst are:

Left: sheer off-white with subtle shimmer
Right: moderately pigmented medium purple with pearly multi-colored shimmer
Bottom: well-pigmented dark charcoal-toned purple with sparse shimmer
Center: multi-colored sparkles (with little pigment)

All the colors have a good staying power.

I thought the medium purple might be a little too cool for me, but it actually goes on warmer than it looks in the pan and it turns out to be a shade that suits me quite well.

One of the selling points of this series is the “Jewel Shower” shade in the center of the palette. It is meant to be used over the eyelids as well as along the inner corners of the eyes to add some intense sparkles. I was worried that the sparkles would not stay put on my lids, but they do have a good adherence to the skin and there is very little fallout. The sparkling effect lasts throughout the day. (Personally, I think the shade is better suited for evening makeup.)

(I like the design of the case.)

In terms of the purple shades in the Coffret D’Or palettes that I have, the one in this palette is warmer than the one in Trance Deep Eyes in 04 Grey Variation and cooler than the one in Shine Accent Eyes in 02 Pink Variation. Overall, I prefer this palette to the other two, but I think 3D Lighting Eyes in 04 Purple Variation is still my favorite Coffret D’Or palette.

Hi Elvira,

The sparkling shade in the center is certainly what makes this series different from the others from Coffret D'Or. I sometimes skip it for daytime makeup, but it is a nice shade to use for the evening.

Thank you for posting your comment again! :)

Hi Chian,

Amber Beige should be a very wearable palette. I usually go for slightly warmer neutrals so I don't think I will pick up this one, but I do think it should suit many people. I hope you will like it if you decide to try it. :)

Thank you for stopping by again! :)

Hi BeautyOnTheWay,

I have not tried Lunasol's Star Shower Eyes in 04 Star River. It is mainly because the lining shade is a dark grey, which wouldn't suit me as much as, for example, a dark violet. Also, I now tend to buy purple-based palettes that have at least two purple-toned shades.

But it is a very elegant and sophisticated palette and I am glad you like it! :) I hope you will like Purple Amethyst if you decide to try it. :)

Thank you for stopping by again! :)

You do so many reviews of free product these days :(

Obviously not this one but i was talking about it with people on twitter and MUA and we all agreed that you have got a bit carried away with the free stuff.

I know its exciting for you but hopefully you'll start reviewing more of your own products again. Like Lollipop26, she barely ever reviews PR products..

Hi Christienne,

I like this palette as well. The medium purple really suits me, as it is neither too cool nor too warm for me. I hope you will like it too if you decide to try it!

Hi,

Thank you very much for your comment. I really appreciate it, and it gives me a chance to address what you have brought up.

As I have mentioned a few times in the last year or so, I have been a lot more selective in terms of purchasing beauty items. To illustrate this and to be more specific, from January to April in 2007, I purchased fifteen base and color makeup items in total, and all of them were featured on my blog. On the other hand, so far this year, I have only purchased three (not including a ZA Two-Way Foundation refill), two of which have been reviewed. (I will post the review of the remaining one (Coffret D'Or Color Mixing Eyes in Orange Brown Mix) next month.)

This meant that, back in 2007, on average, I was able to post a review of a product that I purchased every week and that, so far this year, it was not even one review per month.

On the whole, I still almost always review the makeup items I buy. Nothing has really changed regarding this.

(I have not been any less interested in beauty (makeup, skincare, and fragrance) than I was three years ago. I also had similar annual budgets for beauty in the last four years, so it has not been the case of having no choice but to spend less. It is just that much fewer things have caught my eye in the last couple of years.)

In terms of the decision to review products provided by beauty companies, it is a way to bring to my readers reviews of products of a wider range of product types, brand names, and price points. I only choose to review products that I personally feel interested in and I review them in the same way as I review products that I buy. I would like my blog to be not only a medium through which I share my beauty stash with my readers but also a resource for people who look for information on various products. As I review products that I purchase or am provided by beauty companies, I am able to share my thoughts on specific beauty products as well as my views on beauty-related issues with all my readers.

Again, thank you very much for your comment!
