Million Selling Lipgloss: Sony’s Curvy Lip Silicone

First of all, yes it’s Sony. They do cosmetics in Japan! (Or rather, they own a company in Japan that carries many budget and premium cosmetics lines. Makemania, which carries this Curvy Lip Silicone I have, is one of them.)

This lip gloss is claimed to have sold over 1 million copies in Japan and has been a huge sensation in some other Asian countries. It is nicknamed “Lip Attack” or “Lip Siege” (you get the idea).

It looks pretty ordinary, but it is one of the most lip-plumping lip glosses I have ever used. It is so good that I can’t even put too much on or I’ll end up having very fat lips, and it actually doesn’t feel too thick or sticky.

Also, one great design is the spatula applicator (see below). I always hate the sponge tip because it smudges off the lipstick and it is a hassle to clean. Now with the soft plastic spatula applicator, I can just wipe it with a tissue and it looks as clean as it can be. It also makes a smooth and even application! (Western brands please learn this!)

(pictured: the spatula applicator,

Now that I have tried it, I can understand the hype about it all around Asia, especially when it only costs about $10 USD in Japan!

Edited on June 3, 2007: I’d like to point out that this is not the kind of lip-plumping lip gloss that gives you the tingling feeling and dilates the blood vessels in your lips. I personally don’t like that. For me the tingling feeling is a discomfort. The plumping effect of the Curvy lip Silicone lies in the spot-on texture, consistency, and the glassy and light-reflective effect.

i can’t believe no one’s commented on this, especially since everyone’s so eager to have a piece of the restylane pie. i have naturally full lips so i rarely look at this kind of product but your description intrigued me. is it available anywhere else besides japan? how did you get your hands on yours?

Hello AiDoll,

Thank you for the comment!

A couple of readers have e-mailed me for more information about this and this post has been linked to from other websites and beauty forums, and I have been quite happy about that.

I believe some Sony CP products either are or will be available in Taiwan.

I got mine from the website http://www.adambeauty.com. It is based in Hong Kong and it carries many popular Japanese cosmetics brands. (I was recommended this website by some people at http://www.makeupalley.com.)

Hello there,

Thank you for stopping by my blog.

On the AdamBeauty homepage, if you click on the four Chinese characters under “SANA”, it brings you to the next page and you will see “Sony CP” on the lowest left. Click on that and you will see SONY CP Curvy Lip Silicone. Click on it and you will see the colors available.

I know that the site can be slightly tricky to navigate if you don’t read Chinese. Please don’t hesitate to send me an e-mail (I think it is better that way:)) if you have any more question about ordering something on the website.

Happy browsing!

Ooh – this is exciting! I’m going to S Korea later this year, and I hope it’s available there. Hurray for Japanese cosmetics!

Hello Liz!

Good to hear from you again!!

Hurray indeed! I am not sure whether it is available in South Korea. I will see what information I can find. I’ll let you know if I find any.

Do have a good time on your trip!

(I followed your cola chicken recipe on your blog and it was a success! Thank you!)

Does this actually work?! aND HOW LONG WILL IT STAY ON MY LIPS FOR?

Reply

PJ Tuesday, November 27, 2007

Hello there,

Thank you very much for your question.

I do find it to be quite long-lasting, but obviously the staying power varies from person to person.

I have come across quite a few reviews of this lip gloss. Do have a look at this if you are interested.

I personally dislike any lip-plumping lip gloss that tingles, and this one, with no tingling sensation, actually works very well to make my lips appear fuller. So for me it works very well.

Please do bear in mind that this lip gloss uses a magnifying-glass effect to make lips look fuller so it does not have any long-term lip-plumping effect.

Thank you very much for leaving your comment!

I am wondering if the colour will stay on for a while? What makes this lipgloss so special for you?

I’m very happy you responded to me , your wonderful blogger. Keep up the sensational work! =)

Hello Chisa,

Thank you very much for your question.

This lip gloss costs 1260 yen in Japan, which is about 11 USD. Obviously, it will be a bit more expensive if you see it on eBay or other websites that carry Japanese cosmetics.

Thank you again for commenting! :)

Hello there,

You are welcome!

The one I have is a clear one without any color, so I don’t personally know if the other ones with color stay on well.

I bought this one because I wanted to have a clear gloss so that the color of my lipstick will not be altered by the lip gloss and because I liked the idea of the spatula applicator, which is easily cleaned so it doesn’t bring any lipstick color back into the tube. (I am quite fussy…:)) Plus, it is popular and affordable at the same time.

I had read that it had a good lip-magnifying effect but this is actually not the main reason why I bought it. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the effect was and I was able to understand the popularity of it.

Also, the spatula applicator makes layering very easy. For me, this is a great feature for this product.

Thank you for commenting again. Do please continue to stop by my blog from time to time. :)

I LOVE this lip gloss! I think I’m on my 5th tube. I’ve tried both the clear and the light pink versions. I’m using the light pink version now, and I mix it with a bright pink to make the perfect shade.
It doesn’t smell or taste like anything, and it has a nice smooth texture.
It feels great on, and it looks very sexy! :D

Hello Rei,

I do like the texture as well. As you said, it is very nice and smooth.

I also prefer lip glosses (and lipsticks) that are scentless. So this gloss is absolutely fine with me.

So far the clear one is the only one I have. I have read some good reviews of most of the other shades. Perhaps I will think about trying another shade…

Thank you for visiting my blog and leaving your comment! :)

Hi Bliss,

I am happy you like this lip gloss. I am sure a lot of people feel the same way!

The clear one has a nice glassy finish that I really like. The effect is quite long-lasting as well. It is certainly worth the price.

Thank you for visiting my blog! Hope to hear from you again soon! :)

If you find this good, I’d recommend MAquillAGE’s lipgloss. The one in a tube with a plastic spatula applicator too. THE SPATULA IS TAPERED at the end so it’s super easy to use. The texture is almost like SONYCP, but there are more and prettier colours.

Heroine make KISS ME’s lipgloss is also similar in texture and holding power, with a plastic spatula. (Get the red one its LOVE-RLY)

Hi there,

Thank you very much for your suggestions! :)

I have seen the Maquillage lip glosses you mentioned, and they are indeed very pretty and I do like the applicator. I am not very familiar with Kiss Me’s lip glosses and I will definitely look into them.

Thank you for posting your comment. Enjoy the rest of the weekend :)

Hi PJ!

I’m not sure if I missed something, but did you mention that the Curvy Lip Silicone has no taste or smell?

I was at Sasa and saw the clear lip gloss. I tried putting the applicator from the tester near my nose, and I thought it had a very plasticky smell? But then I could be wrong because it was a tester.

Do let me know what you think? :)

Hi Laura,

The one I have does not have any smell or taste. It could be that the tester has been constantly exposed to air and has been swatched many times…

(Rei, who commented earlier under this post, also mentioned that hers did not have any smell.)

Hope it helps, and thank you for your comment again! :)

Hi KK,

It is currently available in Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and a couple of countries in Asia. But some on-line shops carry it as well. (Please refer to my earlier reply to Aidoll’s comment.)

Thank you for your question! :)
