Color-wise, the fall 2010 makeup trends seem to be a natural progression from the last few seasons. Beiges and browns dominated spring 2010, and they are still a key trend in fall 2010, (Gone are the grays, which were prominent in fall 2009, as a major color trend.) Meanwhile, purples shone last fall and they have taken on a few varied hues this season.
Beiges & Browns
RMK puts browns firmly on center stage with the Autumn Brown collection. The limited-edition Brown Eyes palettes feature various brown tones. (The palettes are called Deep Brown, Dark Brown, Red Brown, Yellow Brown and Beige Brown.) Guerlain‘s new Écrin 6 Couleurs palettes are also based on a variety of neutral tones, while SUQQU‘s revamped makeup line lays the groundwork with six Blend Color Eyeshadow palettes, all with neutral hues.

Pinks, Mauves, Purples & Plums
Biteki (September 2010) calls them the berry tones, and those who are not enticed by the skin-tonal colors and who are interested in more vibrant shades might want to look into these mouth-watering colors.
Dior‘s 5 Color Design palette in Pink Design includes a dusty pink and a sophisticated muted purple. Estée Lauder‘s Pure Color 5 Color Eyeshadow Palette in Surreal Violet offers some delicious berry shades. Addiction‘s fall 2010 makeup collection includes berry-toned items for eyes as well as lips. (Refer to the link for the new items for lips.)

Mix & Match
What is interesting is that many brands feature both color trends in their fall 2010 makeup collections (either in one single item or in various items in the collection). Here are some of the highlights:

Some thoughts after the visit to Harrods and Selfridges a few days ago:
Paul & Joe
I tested some of the items from the fall 2010 Clair de Lune collection. The colors in the limited-edition Face & Eye Color CS palettes look as pretty as they do in the promotional images. However, even for me, many of the colors are too sheer. The three lighter shades in Paper Moon (the neutral palette) are mainly shimmer and don’t have much pigment.
Burberry Beauty
The line was launched on July 12th in Harrods, which is the line’s only retail point in the UK at the moment. All the powder-based items (powder foundations, blushers, bronzers, and eyeshadows) have a beautifully silky texture and a velvety matte finish. (None of the eyeshadows has visible shimmer.) I also like the classy packaging. (I will post a more detailed review of the line later on.)
SUQQU
One of the sales assistants confirmed that the fall 2010 collection would be launched in the UK in September. Since Powdery Cheeks is one of the products to be discontinued next month, I decided that it was time to pick up 11 Ashibi, which caught my eye during my first encounter with SUQQU in 2006 . I have a feeling that it will soon be among my favorite blushers. I also went for 14 Oshiroibana, which is more vibrant. Even though they will be discontinued soon, I am still planning to post my thoughts on them for those who are interested in this exquisite Japanese beauty brand.

Paul & Joe will release its fall 2010 base makeup collection in Japan on September 3rd. The lineup includes:

– Moisturizing Foundation Primer N (3 shades, shades 01 and 02 with SPF 15 and PA+)
– Face Color (3 new shades, limited editions)

– Face & Eye Color CS (three variations: Silver Moon, Paper Moon, Blue Moon)
– Lipstick C (3 shades: Clair de Lune, Over the Moon, Moon Shadow)
– Face Color (3 variations: Luna, Harvest Moon, Pagan)
All the items in this collection are limited editions.
This is a pleasantly colorful collection, and I think many of the items will sell well. (I also like the promotional image at the top.) However, I am not really a fan of the cat lipsticks……

Paul & Joe: As I mentioned earlier, Select Eye Colors are now available in the UK. None of the shades has grabbed me. At the moment, I am looking forward to the new Lip Gloss G from the summer 2010 collection.
RMK: Spring Modern Eyes in 04 Rosy Purple from the spring 2010 collection has been sold out.
SUQQU: I finally had a chance to see SUQQU’s spring 2010 collection in person. Noble Nuance Face Color has a subtle luminous glow that should be appealing for many people. Among other items in the collection, I like Noble Nuance Eyeshadow in EX-01, Noble Nuance Cheeks in EX-01, and Noble Nuance Lipstick in EX-02.

6. Paul & Joe

I think, for many people, the highlight of Paul & Joe’s spring 2010 collection is the Disney Character Collection, which features the Alice in Wonderland characters. For me, I also like the new eyeshadow singles (Select Eye Colors). A while ago, I was told by a Paul & Joe sales assistant that they might not be launched in the UK. But, fortunately, I recently saw them in Harrods. All the 25 shades are available here.
5. Maquillage
(image from www.shiseido.co.jp/mq)
There are five Eyes Creator (3D) palettes in Maquillage‘s spring 2010 collection. All of them feature light-to-medium colors, which look very wearable. I particularly like PK766 (with a hint of peach) and BR765 (with a hint of gold). The new shades of Eye Color N (Powder) include GD, BE, and BR shades as well.
4. Est
(image from www.kao.co.jp/est)
I still haven’t tried items from Est, but I nearly decided to go for a couple of items on several occasions. In the spring 2010 collection, I like the look of the Emotional Multiple Eyes palettes in 09 and 11. 09 reminds me of Magie Deco’s Shadow Brilliance II in Foxy Lady, while 11, with lilac, pink, and yellow gold, reminds me of Lunasol’s Sheer Contrast Eyes in Lavender Coral.
The countdown concludes in Part 3.
