-Jill Stuart

Jill Stuart‘s Jelly Eye Color was a very popular item in the brand’s makeup lineup. Earlier this year, the new Jelly Eye Color N was released. I was instantly drawn to the lovely container. The previous version was cute, while the new one is more ornate.

08 Crystal Sky is a medium-to-dark mauve that has a slight grey undertone, and it is a color that I didn’t have before. (The purples I tend to go for are lighter than this.) It has a lot of sparkly particles, which are silver-toned under sunlight and beautifully multi-colored under certain kinds of artificial lighting. The particles are sparkly but not glittery.

It has a spongy jelly texture and is relatively easy to apply with fingertips. It dries up quite quickly, so blending has to be swift. Once it sets, the color is very long-lasting and it doesn’t crease on my eyes. The sparkly finish holds well too.

It has the same light floral scent as that in many of Jill Stuart’s makeup products. It is subtle and not overpowering.

For me, the shade is a little too dark and too sparkly to be worn as a shadowing shade on the lids (especially for daytime makeup). It is the kind of shade that I would usually only wear near the lashlines, and obviously it is difficult to keep the color very close to the eyes when I apply it with my fingertips. I find it much easier to use a cotton bud or a sponge eyeshadow applicator to apply the shade exactly where I want. Then I use the fingertips to blend and blur the edges.

I do really like it very close to my lashlines. As a soft eyelining shade, it is dark enough to gently frame and accentuate the eyes while still looking natural. The sparkles also look subtler this way.

I have mentioned before that I do prefer powder eyeshadows to non-powder ones. It is still the case with Jill Stuart’s Jelly Eye Color N and my powder eyeshadows, but I think Jelly Eye Color N’s formula does help hold the sparkly particles on the eyes. (There is almost no sparkle fallout.) If you like sparkly or very shimmery eyeshadows, Jelly Eye Color N is certainly worth your consideration.

I have got Jill Stuart’s Jelly Eye Color N in 08 Crystal Sky a while back. It is a color that I haven’t really tried before, and I will be posting my thoughts in the next few days.

Here is a look at Jill Stuart‘s fall 2009 makeup collection. I like the ad image for this season. With dark eye makeup and peachy cheeks and lips, the look is sweet and chic at the same time.

The new items include:

– Illuminance Eyes (1 new variation)

– Seductive Eyes (1 new variation)

– Mix Blush Compact (2 new variations)

– Lip Luster (2 new shades)

– Jelly Lip Gloss (1 new shade)

– Nail Lacquer N (3 new shades)

– Nail Care Essence Oil

In addition, Jill Stuart will celebrate its fifth anniversary by releasing a limited-edition Jewel Collection.

The following two items will be released in Japan on August 31st:

– Crystal Diamond Powder (2 shades)

– Diamond Sparkle Nail Collection

The rest of the Jewel Collection will be available in Japan on October 9th.

– Diamond Dew Lip Color (2 shades)

– Vintage Jewel Compact Mirror

The items are undoubtedly ultra-pretty and will definitely sell out fast, but I don’t usually like very ornate antique-looking makeup pieces which are not actually vintage. Maybe more photos of the collection will change my mind on these items. (On the other hand, the jewellery case from the Diamond Sparkle Nail Collection looks less antique-y and slightly more contemporary.)

Jill Stuart’s summer 2009 collection includes a new Illuminance Eyes palette as well as items for lips and nails, but I am particularly interested in the new Jelly Eye Color N.

Jill Stuart’s (original) Jelly Eye Color is among the brand’s most popular products, but I have never tried it. (I much prefer powder eyeshadows.) Now that Jelly Eye Color N features an even more princessy packaging, there is almost no reason for me not to try at least one of the shades.

2. Lunasol

(image from www.kanebo-cosmetics.jp/lunasol)

Lunasol’s summer 2009 collection continues the Floral Purification theme from spring. The plumeria series includes warm neutrals while the hibiscus series features vibrant cool pinks. The EX02 Summer Pink Gradation from the hibiscus series may be the last vibrant eye palette from Lunasol before fall’s slightly more sombre Stardrop Purification collection sets the scene for the rest of the year.

1. Coffret D’Or

(image from www.kanebo-cosmetics.jp/coffretdor)

Coffret D’Or’s summer 2009 collection is quite a sizable one, with a new lipstick range (Juicy Memory Rouge, 12 shades) and a new palette series (Color Mixing Eyes, 5 variations) among other items. Also, the early summer 2009 collection includes 8 new nail colors.

Since 2008, Coffret D’Or’s eye palettes have probably been my most-used items for eye makeup. I really like the beautiful texture, the finish and the pigmentation level, not to mention the good staying power.

As I mentioned earlier, among the new Color Mixing Eyes palettes, I am liking the look of 01 Orange Brown Mix and 04 Lavender Purple Mix. I think I will try 04 first and see how it goes. I will certainly keep you posted on my thoughts.

Jill Stuart has updated its website to feature the summer 2009 makeup collection (out in Japan on June 5th). The main eye makeup item for the seasonal ad image (below) is Jelly Eye Color N in 08 Crystal Sky (pictured above). It seems to be a very pretty medium purple shade and I am seriously considering getting it.

Also, on July 3rd in Japan, Jill Stuart will release Jill by Jill Stuart Perfumed Body Powder (7g). It is an addition to the Jill by Jill Stuart Eau de Toilette range.

In my post on Jill Stuart’s summer 2009 makeup collection, I mentioned that the existing Jelly Eye Color would be replaced by Jelly Eye Color N. Here is a quick look at the ten new shades.

I think this is a fairly good selection of shades, with a nice range of lighter and darker colors. I am sure more shades will be released later on.

It seems that it has been a bit of a Jill Stuart week on my blog this week… (It is certainly unintentional.)

First of all, many thanks to BA at Beauty Anonymous for posting about the article on Elle News Blog earlier today. According to the Elle article, the launch of the Jill Stuart beauty line will be slightly postponed to early summer this year. The line will be launched at the Jill Stuart flagship store in New York City.

Finally, for those of you in the US who are waiting for the launch, the end seems to be in sight. Hopefully you will be able to place a phone order if you can’t make it to the store.
